I wouldn't really have thought a game like DPL would have helped you get better at GT, because GT is much heavier on the wheel and on DPL you can flick the stick and go into a spin.
It seems like a weird aid, but, whatever gets you going i guess.

I actually found WRC3 to be a great help because i never slowed for corners since there wasn't any damage. But on WRC there was damage so i learnt to drive safely and properly. also the liscenses helped whip me into shape.

For me it was the driving missions that helped since those require precise driving. DPL coudn't help me at all in respect to GT4 since the games are so different. Hell, if I had to use a Driver game for GT training I would use Driv3r since its the closest free-roam alternative in terms of general control.
Driving Games are hard. I can do the first ones where you go around a corner. and 3 of the slipstream ones. I cant beat the Slipstream in the skyline. I always get so close but always fall short.

The Skyline one is actually very easy if you can master a simple technique, I was able to beat it with over 2 seconds to spare. But yeah, some of the driving missions are hard and annoying, I have a few of the 3-lap battles to go and also a few of the 1 lap magic races. Its always a great relief though when you complete a driving mission though.
Well simple for me since I completed it but the goal is obviously drafting. During the straight aways you have to let the CPU cars from behind pass you by drafting you. You cannot slow down at all though and your speed increases will only happen around the corners really.
Yeah. i thought that might be the way to do it but it never actually worked for me. You say you won by two seconds and i always lose by about two seconds. It's just never enough.
