Which era should the new Driver set in?

80 could be cool

I woudn't mind seeing Driver 4 be set in the 1970's or 80's. Though I don't want the whole hippy/drug/fun loving thing, I want the game to be serious and violent to the core with no bullsh** comedy.

Basically, I want the game to have an environment and time frame like the first two games. Plus, if it's in the present, Tanner and TK will be old men.

I have voted the 80's because i think that the 70's are not very original in the driver saga, the 90's are not very different from the present, and the present.... well, let's say that the present... sucks a bit.

Its hard to tell but i believe its 90's becasuse they have new age technology and old cars, so its hard to tell.

driver 3 must be set in 90s because Istanbul isn't looking like that now! ( cars ext. are from 90's)

I think the 1970's, set in LA or Frisco, or both if their is a long enough highway to join them. I want to see a seasoned wheelman, or maybe someone working they're way up through the ranks like T.K starting out being a getaway driver for liquour store robbers, or just the sort of guy that looks right sitting on the bonnet of some massive 70's american muscle car just how the Driver games we're intended to be.

i think the 90's would be cool but ONLY if they actually manage to get some humour into the game (ubisoft may be able to do this now) and much better music, the only good song ive ever heard in a driver game is peaches by the stranglers.

No humour, the more seriousness the better. Driver is not Starsky and Hutch or the Dukes of Hazzard, it's a hollywood style car chase/crime drama game.

I don't think that Driv3r is set in 2003 (the cellphone means nothing) but uhh the topic at hand, like i said I want it to be in the 70-80's because that was the whole drug trade time and that time period would work well for a Tanner-Vazques-Jericho showdown...

yes but do you realise one of the main reasons GTA is so much more popular is because it makes you laugh, and if people like the funny side of things ubisoft are gonna try and make their game funnier to appeal to the audience and make more money.

And again GTA's name pops up. Humour is not the reason why that series is popular. Though, it is a small factor but it's not what really effects the games popularity/sales...

If Ubisoft do decide to carry the franchise to a more satryical and humorous tone I'll be annoyed. I'll still buy the games but my loyalty to Driver will slowly start to fade. I can't help it, when you have a game like Driver you want the violence and seriousness. That's one of the things that bores me about GTA, the story really has no purpose and its all over the place. But hey, that's just me, if humour will increase Driver sales (it won't) then I'm for it but I still disagree with it.

For Driv3r ---> its more logical to have cars from the 90's in 2003 than a mobile phone from 2003 in the 90's (or seventies).

And we have to take it the most logical way.

OK< well Driver should be serious but it cant be stuck up the ass, atleast havbe a little humor.

And coyote is correct, considering now a days i still see cars and trains from 1950 and up alot aroumd here, although in new orleans its mostly 1970s + cars.

I'm saying that the general frame of the story should be serious like all the previous Driver games. A few jokes in a few scenes woudn't hurt but if the missions start being humorous than all is lost.

As for the time frame. If Driver 1 takes place in 1979 then Tanner would be over 50 in Driv3r if it took place in 2003. I doubt that so I think Driv3r was set in the early '90's or something. As for the phone, it's meanigless really, Nokia payed Atari money so there product could be in the game so I think the mobile phone was an afterthought.

I don't know, if there's another developer chat it may be a good idea to ask Reflections what the proper Driver timeline is in relation to Driver 2 and Driv3r.

On the Driver 2 Official Site they say Tanner is in the mid 40's.

And it wouldn't be a surprise if Tanner would be 50 in D3R, in Driver LA Undercover (2008) he was already in retirement and then "Chuck" brought him back.

I think Tanner's last year was 2003 (D3R) after he is being shot. Normally you go in retirement with 62-65 years but Jericho shot at Tanner and maybe Tanner couldn't work anymore so the guys from the NYPD put that picture of Tanner in the police station to remember him as a old police officer.
