Hi everyone :),

I'm glad I came across this site. This maybe the only place to get the help. I have a US copy of Driver 1. The game runs fine, some, without patching it. I've noticed that the music at the main menu and during game. Plays about 5-8 seconds, then repeats the beginning. I know that the Driver Patch #2 from GameSpot, cleans that problem up. Not only is that a problem, but a new problem is with Patch #2. After installing the patch, then start up the game again. It tells me it couldn't locate the CD-ROM! I have two drives, and tried both, with the Driver CD-ROM in it. Still no luck. This is something I don't quite understand. I'm not sure if it's XP or my PC itself. Here's my specs...

Windows XP Home Edition
Intel Pentium 4 530 3.0GHz Hyper-Threading (800 MHz Front Side Bus)
2GB CORSAIR XMS DDR1-400 PC3200 SDRAM
ATI RADEON X700 PRO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express
2 x 200GB (400GB Total) SATA Ultra DMA Hard Drives
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE
8x DVD(+/-)R/RW DL drive
16X DVD-ROM drive

Hope someone can help, and I'll try to reply with what's needed. :)

This appears to be a common problem with the patched version of driver. There are already so many different versions of the game out their and the patch is most likely for a different version of the game.

I suggest you try this patch = http://www.drivermadness.net/main/dload ... file_id=17
That should fix all cd problems which are occurring.

Hi madness. I'm glad I came to this site. Before posting this topic, I did indeed check out that patch. It seems to work with Patch #2, the intro movie and cutscenes will play. But the music doesn't play at all. It won't even do the loop it was doing. It seems that GameSpot.com, and Fileplanet are some of the sites that have Patch #1 and #2. I'm not sure of any other sites, that may have other patches. I would love to listen to the music in game. I didn't care much for it on the Playstation version. But the PC version is better good. :)

I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to completely un-install and install the game again from scratch without it being patched to see how it plays.

Unless you don't mind not having the music at all. If this doesn't work I'll see what I can do to further the problem. But at the time I might be out of ideas it all depends on the outcome of completely reinstalling the game.

Yeah, it seems to be a music problem. For all my PC games, I make sure that they are up to date. I read through the changelog of the two patches. Seems to fix problems, that I may encounter.

I kind of wish I had a Windows 98 machine. That may fix this problem. So that after I install a patch, the game knows of the CD-ROM. Then, with knowing the CD-ROM, the game will boot up, with the latest patch. I've tried all different kinds of troubleshooting. Like put the shortcut on the desktop, to Windows 98/ Windows Me compatibility.

Oh yeah, congratulations on your 1500 posts! :)

I'm thinking that it isn't possible to have the music with Windows XP and most likely any other NTFS based systems. I'm thinking their may have been some sort of security measure that may stop the game accessing the cd player while playing the game as in driver the game plays it like audio tracks on a cd and if you were to put in a real music cd you'd probably hear the music from that, however I've never tried this before.

I'd probably be unsuccessful at trying to modify the game and see weather it is possible to make the game play the files off the HDD it might just work. But I don't think I'll worry about it because it could take forever to if it's possible.

So I guess the only resolution to this problem is to use an older operating system being either Windows 95, 98, 98SE and ME. However if anyone is reading this and they can get this working please say so and maybe I'll further this issue regarding later Operating Systems.

Yes, if there was a way to get all the files, off the CD-ROM. Then, put them on the hard drive, so the the FMVs and music would play in the game. But it's got to be something with Windows XP. I've noticed that PC Gamer Presents: Driver, from Europe. May have the patches installed, and maybe all the files for the game, get put on HDD... not really sure.

It wouldn't be as easy as putting the music on the Hard Drive, I think you can easily do this with the FMV's but not with the music. If you having any problems with the FMV's as well I can easily fix that problem up.

It seems that patch on here, helped with the FMVs. I use DAEMON Tools for the image files of my game. I hate having to play a game, that most of it has to run off the disc. I just wish there was a way. Maybe a program, that will copy all the files off the disc, and be played off HDD. I don't think it's possible though. I've searching the Internet for a while now. It's hard to find anything for Driver 1.
