sorry, this is a really big issue to talk about. However to keep things quick I'll point you in the direction of a couple of ps1 emulators. I was just going to explain it in one big post when I got the time however I haven't gotten the time yet!

I kind of wanted to see if I could get Driver2 going on one of my rigs so I can record with Fraps and show you guys my Vegas jump run course thing. I don’t have options for TV to PC vid card, only an output for watching my PC games on TV, so you know, I thought until I got that worked out someday I might try an emulator instead. Too bad they didn't just release Driver2 for Windows. (I guess you're probably tired of hearing that.)

I read what you wrote about Driver2 going very fast on your machine, and so far I’ve only tried it on my newer PC, where, of course, it’s like warp speed (lol). I was thinking I could, you know, run a bunch of resource hog apps in the BG or check it out on the older Dell Desktop and still get some decent FPS even while recording. Anyway, so far it’s too fast to really test functionality very easily, and pressing enter key after highlighting options only exits the game.

I thought I might need some PPF patches for it (NTSC disks here, btw) or something before I could get a more better response from the game menu and stuff, play speed aside. Did you have to use any? What do you have for disks down there, PAL or whatever?

Anyway, I guess for now I should have left it at the first question regarding whether or not this is suitable topic for discussion at DM.net forums.

Well when I can get driver 2 back in my PC sometime in the near future I think I'll mess around with the settings some more, it's really annoying how it doesn't start straight off.

I wished Sony would release their PSP emulator so I can play Driver 76 on PC and I hope Sony make a ps1 emulator so I can play Driver 2 with less problems. But t I guess it is something Sony doesn't want to do.

If you are using ePSXe emulator and Pete's video plugin go to:
Config/Video/choose Pete's D3D Driver(version number)/Configure.
In new window select "Auto-detect FPS Frame skipping limit. If it doesn't help (game still goes too fast), select "FPS limit (10-200) and write 30

I played with xpsxe, but I really don't like its graphic. I think I enjoy more with driver 1...

Well, I’m still having trouble finding time to test this stuff out, but actually so far, I kind of like the results I get with the Pete’s OpenGL2 plugin. Sound is A-okay using the SPU Eternal plugin.

Cool. You weren't kidding, daan, when you said, "Enjoy." Finding proper results now. I’m sure that will only get better with a bit more experimentation. Looks nice. Everything seems to be functioning rather well, except the game freezes for about one second, like twice per minute, regardless of which graphics plugin is used. (Is that actually related to something else?) Hopefully I can find a setting to remedy that. Any ideas on where to look?

Does anyone got some data I can have that will put the game state at completed, so I can go for a ride in all cities with all vehicles right now instead of playing through the game again first? Or a link to a download from a safe website?

Try to experiment with 30 - 40 FPS, but freezes are also caused by playing from CD. If yes, make an Image of Driver2 CD and play from HDD

Thanks for the replies, daan. Yah, man, once I got some time to look into this whole thing in greater depth or whatever, I got a better idea of what was going on. It’s not so much like me to be posting questions before looking around the Internet for answers that have already been provided for those questions. Madness is simply too pampering, and it tempts one to come dump problems in his lap. Untie this knot for me, please. LOL!

Man, that looks way cool, far better than the game appears on the PS. I would suggest to the thread starter, Mahmood, that he give this thing a little more experimentation before dismissing it, because this definitely looks very nice on my rig (don’t know what his system specs are, of course—wish mine were a bit higher, as all eye candy cranked up on high resolution looks sweet, but runs a tad slow for me at this point… still working on that)

When I tried just driving around the same small city block over and over, around and around, no hang up freezing type incidents occurred, so I got the impression that this was about stuff—textures or whatever—trying to load while I make beelines. I went online again to read about what memory cache is in computers (Like Oddball says in Kelly’s Heroes, “I just ride 'em. I don’t know what makes 'em work,” replying to Big Joe asking him why he isn’t up there helping fix the broken down Sherman tank.) I saw this business about game image copies. You say that’s the thing, then, eh?

I really don’t like going to the sorts of places where this kind of stuff is offered, since so many of them seem to be hazardous to visit or download files from. Ordinarily I don’t have to go there, because I prefer to play only that which I have purchased. But this seems like a special circumstance for me, and I don’t feel guilty, as I own a PS and the Driver2 game. I don’t want to feel sorry, either, though. I already had to remove some crap from my rig this week after delving into this part of the web (first time I had to deal with that in ages), but I sure would like to eliminate that hang up business. Does anybody know a reliable and safe place to get a package with both the Driver2 game files and some completed gamesave data?

Oh, I see. You said make an image. I need to find out what that means in literal terms. I have two disk drives onboard each PC here, plus some other external DVD RW drive. Do I even need that stuff, or do I just copy the files from the Driver2 disks to some... aw, I'm doing it again. I'll look for a tutorial. Thanks again. Could still use a savegame, though.

Wow wee! That’s just nice. I should like to reiterate some thanks to you guys for your support and encouragement. I have to admit, the comment that may have given me the most hope was when nobodie902 said, "wondering what he did wrong...?" This is playing very well, and looking very pretty. I just need to figure out how to use this savegame data and how to get the analog stick on my PC gamepad to work with this so I don’t have to use the hat for steering.

Boy, I’ll tell you what. DRIV3R, this isn’t (or the others), but there is something to be said for having a Quick Replay (or any replay at all, for that matter) that offers decent camera views. I like having this Driver2 along with Driver on the PC. I wish I had more HD space, so I could keep DRIV3R on there right now, too. That’s a slick looking game, to be sure. Love those bikes.

I thought I might say that I didn’t mean to sound condescending in encouraging Mahmood to not give up on playing Driver2 on PC. His reason for deciding not to play Driver2 on PC was the poor quality of graphics, and I was going on about how great the graphics looked. I suppose that suggests that I assumed Mahmood was not looking at the best quality that the graphics could be with Driver2 for PC, but not so, actually. It’s simply that Mahmood seemed satisfied with the graphics of Driver (1) for PC, and I think Driver2 for PC looks comparable to that with all the options in the ePSXe set for that. That’s all. I hope no one was bothered by what I originally wrote about the matter. I didn’t mean to be presumptuous or sound as if I was trying to speak down to anyone. That’s for sure.

Aw, this file I have doesn’t seem to be what I need. Hey, boss, do you still have any savestate files that may have been sent to you by the dude from this this thread year. I can’t find any saved games to use for this that aren’t included in archives that also contain the entire game disk files, too, all of it via bit torrent, and the rates are appalling. I can’t be waiting 300 hours when I only need the file that is a mere 125Kbs or whatever. I'm getting tired of surfing such risky territory online, too.

Does anyone have a Driver2 savestate for the ePSXe?

Actually I don't see where you included that information in the post you mention, but nevertheless, yah, man, you’re right. I did misunderstand what you wrote. I’m not very savvy about interpreting many common ways of online expression, to be sure. I have to look up a lot of words people write before I know what they're talking about.

I thought what you posted was just some cool way of saying you wondered what I did wrong to make Driver2 run so fast using the ePSXe. I took that to mean it should be pretty easy to get things running well, and once I got that time to experiment with all the plugins and their settings, that’s exactly what happened.

So, that does indeed sound like a cautionary tale, that which you mention about your computer while playing Driver2 with settings maxed out. What a drag, that sounds like. I hope that doesn’t happen to my rig. I am sorry something bad happened to yours.

I’m using the newer one of the two listed on the page that my signature links to. You don’t happen to have any recommendations for avoiding that sort of result while I play Driver2 using the ePSXe, do you, based upon my specs?

I hope I can play it a bit this weekend. I want to go snag that car from the baseball stadium in Chicago and take it for a ride. Those kamikaze cops are pretty tough to dodge on the narrow streets of that city in Cuba. They come at you like huge insects on the highway or something.

I decided to just play through the game again to unlock stuff. I guess it didn’t take too long, but I can think of other things I’d rather have been doing.

There's nothing illegal about using an emulator to play discs you own on a PC. It's also very nice to burn your discs to the hard drive, and put them away so you can stop wearing them out.

I use ePSXe, you need plugins but who cares? It's awesome - it made Driver 1 look like an alpha version of a PS2 game (After PS1 but waaay before PS2 gfx, its in between.)

Recently i've downloaded Driver 2 with PSX-FIN emulator (pSX v 1.13) but the graphics at full screen are very blurry and pixeled, i've put the max resolution with VSync (Aspect ratio 16:9).
The game works pretty good without problems or glitches(no need to download plugins).

Anyone knows how to solve that problem? (for example, Miller's videos are pretty good quality, i mean graphically)

Maybe i need a new version of the emulator (or maybe there are different versions of Driver 2)

It's because Miller is using EpsxE. Only epsxe is able to render in better definition (like 1024x768). Psxfin only renders like the original psone. I think it also runs a tiny bit better on some games than epsxe but epsxe is definitely better. Try it out. You'll need plugins and BIOS files though. You can find them on the internet

Driver 2 now works in my PC, i've installed the plugins. But i've problems with the video configuration (if anyone could post a picture of his video configuration for Driver 2 i would be very grateful for that info)

which BIOS is better? SCPH-1001 or SCPH-7502 (i already have downloaded 1001)

Mine works fine with "dtlh3000.bin" bios. But since I`m having very slow comp, I`m using the lowest possible resolution and such.
