Discussion for DRIV3R (2004)

NIce find! Man I wish we could have the Stuntman maps for DSF too. A huge DSF mod with New York, Miami and Louisiana. I wouldn't mind the other locations, but all DSF cars have US specs so they wouldn't really fit. This game still looks so good after over 10 years, and I loved the handling of the cars :)

Haha you know when I was younger (at the time of DPL), my dream was either a Driver that was a mix of Stuntman, Driver 3 and Driver: Parallel Lines or a GTA that had Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas on one map with all the physics and stuff from San Andreas.

People always talk about how Driver 3 could have been if it was finished, but the answer is easy: just play Parallel Lines! You've got stuff in Driver 3 that was only "finished" in Parallel Lines, such as on foot, or shooting out from the car. Now imagine all maps from Stuntman, Driver 3 and DPL mixed up with all vehicles, with on foot from DPL and graphics from DPL, with damage and physics from Driver 3, with handling from Stuntman. That was my dream, with an online mode of course.

And with all the different Zartex of course! They have small differences like different tail lights or hub caps (and light bars), would have been cool to see the same model with slight variations like you see in Driver: SF now.

But now that DSF is out it's the ultimate game. I play every day for at least 1 hour since the day I got it, it's simply perfect. It would be soo good to have especially New York or Miami! I would die for it !!!!

Shame that online mode wasn't included in Driver PL.
Speaking of multiplayer, that's another addition to the Driver franchise: online support for up to eight different players. Parallel Lines is set to include a variety of different gameplay types. There's cops and robbers, in which one driver plays the part of the robber, while the other players try to chase him down in their squad cars. There's your basic racing mode, with players trying to outdo each other on the track. And there's even a team-based carjacking mode, in which the goal is to capture four cars scattered around the map and return them to your home "base." Think capture the flag, but with cars.

Yup, shame it was removed from Driver 3 also! And omg BTW — that "capture the flag with cars", I told Badnick not long that Driver: San Francisco should need something exactly like this. I'm not sure if he remembers, I told him about a game mode that would be basically exactly like this. And I swear I've never heard of this "capture the flag with cars" for DPL, I knew it should have had online mode (actually only PC and Wii versions) but not about this specific game mode.

I am ashamed to admit that I forgot how epic Stuntman was. It was one of my most favorite games EVER as a kid. SO many good memories from that game. Stuntman needs to be cracked ASAP!

I just took a quick peek in the Stuntman files and to my shock, the model file format contains this "PDL001 002 003" string that can be found in DRIV3R models. This leads me to believe Stuntman files also use a modified version of the .X file format. Quick, assemble a team of highly-trained nerds to help us disassemble these files! There's textures inside as well!

Just kidding, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's lots of stuff that is the same, I mean Driver 3 was basically based on Stuntman — don't forget that! :) Textures would be interesting yeah. What I find strange is that there's this guy on Youtube who drives all the civilian and locked cars via Action Replay, and there's that Monster Truck with flames… You'd think that they just replaced the textures with the Big Foot textures, but apparently that Monster Trucks from the trailer is still in there.

Perhaps you'll find the textures of the beta cars seen in trailers too!

There's already something similar called GTA United , but right now is only Liberty City + Vice City with GTA SA gameplay.

Yeah I read that some time ago! I even asked a question about such a project on a GTA forum and they told me it would be too complex to have all the cities because of game engine boundaries. Also, I'm pretty sure that they're based on the Vice City engine, not the San Andreas one. Although they have the graphics and HUD from SA! They told me all of this could be changed to make it look like SA, but the point of using the SA engine isn't the HUD, but stuff such as climbing over walls or tuning cars… idiots :D

Same engine, and 90000 jillion assets reused in Driv3r after all.

Yep, and as a result I think I’ll play Stuntman again :) What I’m wondering is if someone’s actually managed to play free roam on these maps… that’s one thing I’ve always wanted to do. I’m wondering where some of the roads actually lead. Man it would be so cool to mod DSF and use these maps for the game :|

Free roam was scrapped, only references remain. Only way to use other maps is to go into the Stunt Arena and hex edit the game while running it in PCSX2 with Cheat Engine. However, the game still uses the coordinates from the Arena, so everything is completely frigged up.

Coyote wrote:Oh, there was meant to be a fee roam? Sweet, didn’t know that :)

I was actually thinking of just bypassing the timers and the “Out of the zone” functions, the latter should be more difficult, however.
The maps are all divided up into sections, sadly. Monaco, is divided up into 5 iirc. London is insanely small.
#49326
Really? I know that some are “open” and you could travel wherever you would like to if it was possible, in some missions you can even see places from other missions far away! I believe the only thing that is split in Monaco is the city and the mountain roads.

I wish there was a ripper that could extract the levels properly so we could rip every piece to a level and piece them together to see how they might have looked in free roam. I assume that free roam was going to be one huge level, but they ran out of space on the disc (or it was too buggy/slow)

I thought they scrapped because they couldn't do non-scripted traffic/peds, and the levels(excluding Monaco ofc) were too small.

Ah good point, they maybe didn’t want or didn’t have time to make a traffic system. Maybe they didn’t want to release them without traffic. I wouldn’t have minded at all. And yes I think one of the reasons is that the maps are way too small.

I’m not sure if ripping them to rebuild them would be such a good idea, it will never be the same and eventually even more things would go wrong. I think the best solution would simply be to hack the timer to have unlimited time and the thing that tells you that you went the wrong way. I’m not sure by what exactly this is defined. But probably it’s doable. Would be a huge thing :)

I was suggesting doing that because the levels in Stuntman as they are don't really say much. They're barren wastelands without anything in them. I was suggesting ripping them and piecing them together just to get a look, nothing more.
