What Sedans wrote about what happened was accurate enough. I wanted him to change his attitude here and be nicer to people. That is a paraphrase, not what I actually wrote to him, but it is close enough. Only a morally depraved individual would think there is anything wrong with that.
I do not feel like addressing the idiotic things Sedans has posted on this matter, and I will not be issuing any warnings for the reasons stated below.
(08-23-10) e-mail excerpt from Miller to bb_42001:
Those two things, if I am not mistaken, are transforming DriverMadness.net into a complete website (and extended network) and cleaning up the conduct problems in the forum.
Is it your goal to improve DriverMadness.net in the ways described above?
(08-23-10) e-mail excerpt from bb_42001 to Miller:
Yes, you hit the point exactly
(08-23-10)
bb_42001 warns Sedans in the public forum for the same sort of thing at issue now, including calling someone fuckface.
(08-26-10)
Miller becomes a moderator. Takes leave to work on new web pages.
(10-04-10)
Sedans is warned by bb_42001 for the same sort of thing at issue now (and for being too sexy - lol). It goes in his record.
(10-13-10) e-mail excerpt from Miller to bb_42001:
I will be back at the forum again after I get this stage done (web pages). If it is okay with you, boss, I would like to devote more time to cleaning up the foul language that has already been posted to significant forum topics and make an active effort to help you discourage members from continuing to post that sort of garbage.
(10-13-10) e-mail excerpt from bb_42001 to Miller:
am love with your ideas, and i like the fact you want to add more web pages to the website. I also agree that there is way too much foul language on the site, and because your a mod now, you can do it alot easier.
(11-27-10) Private message excerpt from Miller to Sedans:
I am trying to discourage members from using profanity outside of the Driver Stories, the Trash section, and in their blogs. People who cuss once in a while are not the problem. People who cuss like you do make this website look bad, so please stop cussing so much and try to keep it to those places I mentioned above, man. Also, it would be nice if you were a little more polite to people.
No reply to message. Request ignored. I continue deleting garbage posted and wait to see if it stops.
(12-08-10) Public message excerpt by Miller to entire community:
There are a lot of DRIVER fans who do not want to see f**k sh*t GODDAM b*t*h every time they open a topic to read.
(12-08-10) Public message excerpt by bb_42001 to entire community:
I hate to say i agree with miller
(12-24-10) Private message excerpt from Miller to Sedans:
Please stop posting profanity outside of the Trash section, Driver Stories segments (not in comments on stories), and your own blog (not in other people's blogs). Thank you, man.
No reply to message. Just more garbage posted by Sedans and deleted by me. I send him a message to let him know that I am no longer going to follow him around deleting things he has already been asked by me and warned by the boss not to post.
(12-25-10) Private message excerpt from Miller to Sedans:
This is not a suggestion or a request. These are the things you need to do now if you want to keep your posting privileges in this forum.
1) Change your avatar to something less offensive.
2) Remove the profanity from your signature.
3) Stop being so blatantly antagonistic with your comments to people.
Speaking hypothetically, so you know where things stand, after this message it will have to be a formal warning. After that you will be banned for a month. After that the length of time for which you are banned will increase to six months, and then a year.
(12-25-10) Private message from Miller to Sedans:
Sorry. I did not notice what it says in your location. Please change that, too, man.
So Sedans complains and the boss gives in, just like before. Okay, you can have one swear word in your signature. Okay, two words but not in bold. Okay, you can have it in bold but not capitalized.
What do I read next? Okay, you can call him f**ker, but not fuckface. Okay, you can call him fuckface but not in bold. Okay, you can make it bold but just don’t use capital letters.
Does anyone see where I am going with this? This is where the difference is between my way of moderating and what you had. Before it was basically, “Hmm, which of these two troublemakers do I like the least? Okay, that makes him wrong and the other one right?†That may be a comical simplification of it, but who can honestly say this is not essentially what you have been getting from your moderators?
I did not pull all of this out of my crack. And I did not just wake up one day and decided to commandeer the boss’s website. I made a set of specific proposals to the boss aimed at making this website more successful. He agreed with me and gave access to the database, moderator authority, and permission to go ahead and make a difference in the way that was described before I ever started doing it.
Anyone who thinks something else happened does not know what he or she is talking about.
The ones who follow the rules would act right even if there were no rules to follow. The rules are there because of people like Sedans, who do not know how to act right. The moderators are supposed to be there to make sure people like Sedans do act right. If one person is allowed to refuse to cooperate, then why should anyone else feel obliged to cooperate?
As you can see, the problem for me as a moderator is this. If someone does not like the rules, he can just say so and the rules change for that person. That pretty much means the rules are not really worth anything. That also means there is no point in having a moderator who is actually willing to do the job properly.
Check it out for yourself, man. We have moderators here who seem to think the point of being one is so you can write “Driver Madness Moderator†in your signature at other websites. That is ludicrous. Moderator status is not a trophy; it is a job.
Was that really such a severe thing to ask, that people stop calling each other fuckface and stuff like that? At Driver-Dimension.com, for example, the moderators even intervene to ask people to use punctuation in their posts so readers can tell what they are saying instead of just posting the kind of little kid gibberish that we allow anyone to post at Driver Madness Network.
There is nothing wrong with what I was trying to do here. The only ones who think what I was doing was bad are the ones who make this website look bad. They are the same people who say this website sucks, and if you let them have their way it will.
For me there is not much point in sticking around a website that functions this way.
Good luck to all of you.
