Ok, so about two years ago I bought DPL for PC. Back then, I had a Toshiba laptop that couldn't push it. Waste of money.

I didn't return it immediately, and pretty soon I forgot about it. So I never returned it.

About a year ago, I got a new Toshiba laptop, bigger, and better. Yesterday I found DPL, so I put it in the computer (and of course, this one could push it) and I watch the first cutscene, the mission starts, and next thing I know, my computer crashes. So I think "No problem, this can be fixed easily.." Well I was wrong. The computer wouldn't even start up completely. After 4 hours of pointlessly running startup checks, and trying to get my computer again, it just tells me that it can't start up, and etc etc etc.

Thanks a lot DPL. I'm writing this from my Mac iBook G4. Agh...

So, my computer's being fixed.. But it's going to cost a good little bit... AGHHHH...

It had way more RAM and etc to push the game. It has nothing to do with the computer, it was the crap ass disc.

I can't return it, the store I bought that game from is now out of business.

I understand that though. Now granted, it's not much of a gaming computer, but consider this:

I had San Andreas installed on it, and it ran perfectly, no problem. (And if you haven't noticed, San Andreas is a much bigger file than DPL.) My video&sound cards could push it. It's the disk.

Yes, San Andreas is way much bigger than Parallel Lines, but it requires less from the PC due to the graphics. In the graphics department, San Andreas requires less because we all know it has "good" graphics, and it can be run in a PC/laptop with a integrated video card (on-board). Parallel Lines, in the other site, requires more from a PC, as it has better graphics than San Andreas and it even requires things like Shader and stuff, and it can't run in a integrated video card.

If the problem was not caused by hardware, yes, it could be the disk due to the Digital Rights Managements programs like StarForce or SecuROM, but as Ubisoft does not use it anymore, it's not the game's fault.

True. I had thought about that. I know that the graphics for DPL are much better, but still, it doesn't make up for that much of lost space compared to San Andreas.

But either way, I'm pissed.

What he is saying is true.

Driver: Parallel Lines is very demanding, particularly in terms of Video Capabilities. RAM, CPU tend to be less important when it comes to games.

Although, if Ubisoft spent more time working on the PC release that could have increased it's capability so it's similar to San Andreas. But you really have to think about the sales these games get. Ubisoft cannot spend million highly optimizing the PC version just so an extra 20% would buy the game.

I think they did a pretty good job on the PC Release though, better than a majority of other games out there.


You cannot blame Driver: Parallel Lines for your hardware problem. I cannot see how it could cause this. I think this was just bad luck.

It appears your getting the problem fixed.
I tend to be an expert at fixing things.
But it appears I don't have to worry.
What error messages were you getting out of curiosity?

Well you smell, i find it easier to buy PS1 games for 50p 2nd hand and play them on my PS3, LEGALLY!!!!!!! Plus did i mention the price for this high end gaming tech?

So? You're saying that on PCs you only play pirated games?

I find hilarious that people think that they need a $3.000,00 rig to play games on PC. You can buy it with the very same money that paid for it for the console. Yeah, maybe a bit more, but not as near of the much $$$ you think.

Grr, you totally owned me , But the illegal games on PC was in reference to Chris' emulation argument. I am basing it from prices in the UK, which seems to be very for games consoles, ie a new PC, the cheapest i could find on PCWorld was £249 (see http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/256081), where as I paid £200 for my PS3 with a Six-Axis Pad free (obviously but i thought i would state it). OK now i see im still digging a hole but, grr again, OK PC games are cheaper, but for me, nothing beats sitting in my room, playing on my HD-TV in full 720p glory with no worries about compatibility of hardware or low frame rates!

I know what you mean. Even here, games related stuff are expensive. Specially console games, they're a fortune, while PC games are way much cheaper.
