I wouldn't trust ubi, especially after Far cry 2. They are a web of deception they will say one thing and it means something totally different. them announcing a next driver now wont mean anything until we see something materialized and even then we should be wary of ubi. I don't want to sound like some conspiracy person. nor as some testimonial of an advertisement site but I used to think that post like this where total bs until far cry 2 then i saw the truth ubi is worst than ea they are very avarice and will lie about features, dates, and everything else regarding their games to sell money. The devs are not to be blamed, but ubi the publisher. I just pray that the new driver wont fall prey to ubi's power and end up releasing a half-made game with a bunch of features that ubi advertises that aren't included.

Just a cautionary word. btw are they broadcasting e3 live this year (they did last year, that was awesome)

Well hopefully they won't be as bad as Atari.
I remember them saying we could add Custom Tracks in Driver: 76. When it was released we couldn't, if we could that would have added another 100 hours of gameplay time listening to different (custom) music while crusin the streets. That was a pretty big disappointment for me.

But that's the past;
hopefully; Driver: The Recruit turns out well!

It looks like it's going to be at E3.

Ubisoft files Killing Day, Driver trademarks

French publisher puts in USPTO claims for long-dormant first-person shooter, racing franchises.

Ubisoft also filed applications for the names "Driver: The Recruit" and "C.O.P.: The Recruit." In 2006, Ubisoft picked up the Driver license from Atari, which unloaded the IP and its developer Reflections Interactive for €19 million (then $24 million, now $26 million). As part of a BBC interview in June 2008, Ubisoft revealed that Reflections was at work on a new installment in the Driver franchise, the first since 2006's lackluster Driver: Parallel Lines.

As with other applications of this ilk, all three filings carried descriptors for "game software and electronic game programs, namely, software games recorded on CD-ROM and digital video discs for computers." Ubisoft had not responded to requests for comment on the filings as of press time.

Conveniently enough, the filings come as the industry gears up for the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, which runs June 1-4 in Los Angeles. Ubisoft is expected to deliver its E3 press conference at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 1, and GameSpot will be on hand to report on news from the event as it happens.

When I emailed Narco earlier last year they never replied to me :)
It'll be nice if there working with reflections again.
I think they did a good job on Driver 3. I don't think they did much in DPL.

Wow, I’m speechless. Not only was there no Driver announcement but that may have actually been one of the worst press conferences I have ever seen. I applaud you Ubisoft for wasting nearly 2 hours of my f***ing life.

James Cameron talking for 20 minutes about Avatar but no game footage – Check
Some former soccer player giving his life story for 15 minutes then showing a sh*tty Wii game – Check
A bunch of gay ass fitness and “tween” games for the Wii and DS – Check

At one point I was actually clinically dead for 3 minutes while watching this, true story.

Bravo Ubisoft and keep up the good work.

Thank God that I didn't watch it. Heck, on all video game sites and forums, everyone was really pissed with this *cough* conference *cough*.

Oh, and the "former soccer player" is Pelé. The best soccer player that Brazil ever had! :D

EDIT: We might still have some hope, click here

Good soccer player or not, the game that he's associated with is crap.

Normally I wouldn’t be that pissed (and E3 isn't over yet so who knows) but it just seems that Driver is lost in the annals of time. We got a vague BBC video last year then nothing. We get a trademark this year and presumably nothing again.

I mean, wtf has Ubisoft done with the franchise since acquiring it 3 years ago apart from releasing 3 Atari reject projects that were only released to make a quick buck. I'm getting tired of this sh*t, where's the respect for the hardcore fans?

Probably Ubi don't think that Driver is a good series because... it isn't an IP originally started by them? I dunno.
E3 isn't over yet, and there still two or three games that Ubi has to announce (Ghost Recon 4, another non-mentioned one, and probably Driver). But I wouldn't be surprised if nothing will be shown...

Project Natal looks cool though...

When I first saw that, the first thing that came to mind was "Project Anal" lol

on a serious note, well, I'll wait to see if there will be any news about Driver/COP over the next few days, and if not I will be slightly pissed...

although, I'd rarther see Ubi make sure that D:TR is good rarther than do what atari had done with D3 and just chucked it out on the shelves half done...

*EDIT*

@emmetmcl

I would imagine that Sony would announce it with exclusive DLC for the PS3 (Like GTAIV had on the 360)

as for COP:TR,

I would imagine that it'll be a Spinoff of the Driver series or a portable version for the PSP/DS

*UPDATE*

COP The recruit will be available on the DS, you dont play as any character made famous by the Driver series (well, unless it was a background character that I cant remember...)

I was just watching the Nintendo Press conference! (I don't have any Nintendo product, but I wanna make sure that I find out as much as I can about Driver and any other games of interest to me - such as COP)

*EDIT*

if you are interested in any other info about COP:TR, then I suggest watching the E3 Nintendo press conference online once the websites have the video readilly available... it litterally just finished when I posted this, so you may have to wait a while for the video to be ready yet though...

*EDIT#2*

also, if your a big fan of Driver, then I would definately suggest watching the Sony Press conference that will start in a few moments from now...

follow this link to see the video, and the countdown timer till the video starts (LIVE)

So is COP TR a Driver game or just a game made by Reflections?

I think that its made by the canadian team that made the previous portable title for the PSP (Driver 76) (although I could be wrong)

its definately not a Driver game, I think that it is just a game based on Driver (the characters story has *MINOR* similarities to tanners story)

There was no Canadian developer of D76, just Reflections and Sumo Digital who are both in England, unless you mean Ubi themselves.

Oh....

Sorry, I thought I read that Ubi have opened a new (back when I read it) reflections studio, and we all were talking about what does that mean for the team in Newcastle/England

But anyway, whichever team put together D76, I would imagine have done COP:TR

*UPDATE*

Sony is starting now, chat later!.

No mention of Driver but the Sony conference was great. Uncharted 2, GOW 3, Assassins Creed 2, MAG, and all the PSP offerings were great.

Is it possible that COP The Recruit for the DS is the next Driver just renamed? LOL I would sh*t a brick if true...it can't be though right? RIGHT?

Oh man I hope not, I really hope not. emmetmcl's email from Nimrod did say Driver would be present at E3 but that was before the COP trademark.

I still hold out Reflections is working on a proper Driver console game but if not and COP is a reality then I'm done...

If it was always going to be a DS exclusive, then why were no people hired to work on DS by Reflections, but PS3 and 360 devs were hired, also, are we sure COP is made by reflections?

when else at E3 could DTR be announced though?

We're not sure at all and I assume it's not because like you said why hire in the field of PS3/360 development when your making a DS game. For a DS game though, COP definitely looked like a formidable Driver/GTA knockoff

I don't think DTR can be announced anywhere else, Ubi's conference aswell as the big 3 are all done. All that's left is companies like Square Enix, Capcom etc.

Smiler's link will only have demo's and interviews about games already shown like God of War 3, Uncharted, Beatles, Ass Creed, Splinter Cell etc
