Ok i have another IE8 Glitch.

Image

As you can see circled the first 2 tabs are green, but there is no reason for them to be green, the first one wasn't green until the second one was open. BTW the title on the second tab is about something funny.. so ignore what it says.

In summer maximum temperatures here are ~40°C ( ~105°F )
Psht. Weak! Our maximum this summer was 45°C. It was horrible, I wanted to die. Plus we had about a couple of weeks of temperatures above 40°C, so it was worse...
I suppose that's what happens when you live in the dryest state of the dryest continent in the world, ne?
The maximum that we get here is 35ºC, and the lowest is 10°C. I guess that it's normal for a city full of mountains nearby.
Here it's about- max: 45°C | lowest: 16°C.
Although I don't pay much attention to the history of temperatures so I could be wrong.

Visualise an award at mima

Rare internships are up for grabs as competition prizes for our computing students.

The internships are with either the BBC’s CBeebies channel, Ubisoft Reflections, one of the world’s leading computer games companies, or Loft Music, a Newcastle-based music company.

The University’s Vis (Visualisation) Awards are in their third year, and the competition is open to students from the our School of Computing: second and third years, postgraduate and research.

The competition has the following categories:
‘Life’s a pitch’ sponsored by CBeebies
Computer Games Design*
Computer Games Programming*
Modelling*
Character Animation*
Digital Music (this prize is sponsored by Loft Music).

The four * categories offer six month-internships with Ubisoft Reflections, which are individually worth the equivalent of a £7,000 salary and the four prize-winners can complete the placements at the end of their studies.

Work placement at CBeebies
For the ‘Life’s a pitch’ category, students pitch their idea for a final year film in no more than six minutes, to a panel of CBeebies professionals. The successful student will clinch a work placement at CBeebies, which is currently the UK’s number one children’s preschool channel.

The Vis Awards have also been sponsored by Codeworks, who will award runners-up prizes in five of the categories. Codeworks support the digital sector in the North East. The closing date is Tuesday 21 April, and details are available at Vis Awards

Dr Derek Simpson, Dean of the School of Computing, said: 'These internships give our students invaluable industry experience. It not only gives them a good foothold but also boosts the students’ CVs in a very competitive arena.'

Justin Greetham, Senior Lecturer in Visualisation and Graphical Applications, added: 'In the current economic climate these awards show that we’re helping our students as much as we possibly can. And we’re also promoting businesses in the North East, of which Ubisoft Reflections is a good example.'

Giselle Stewart, General Manager at Ubisoft Reflections said: 'We’re very proud to be sponsoring the Vis Awards this year, as part of our continued work with Teesside. The awards provide a unique opportunity for students to showcase their talents, and with Ubisoft Reflections offering a number of internships as prizes, we are committed to rewarding those who demonstrate the most potential.'

Winners in five categories will be selected by a judging panel that will convene at the University's Centre for Enterprise on Tuesday 5 May. Shortlisted students will pitch their creative computing concepts to the panel, made up of representatives from the University’s School of Computing, Ubisoft and Loft Music . The CBeebies panel will listen to the pitches at the University at the same time. All winners will be decided on the same day, and presented with their awards in a special ceremony at mima at 7.00pm.

So, anyone here planning to study at Teesside?

I wasn't but that looks awesome; thanks for the heads up! Curse my only being a 6th form student, and it closes on Tuesday 21 April :( Howvever, I will make a (presumably feeble) attempt, wish me luck! An internship would be perfect, cummon thinking head!

EDIT: While snooping around, i found this:
Talk of Martin Edmondson ( Reflections founder ) to announce this years vis awards winners and runners up on the 5th May at MIMA

For me it's cold, as almost the whole year, we get temperatures over 29°C. There was just one time, last year, that we got less than 9°C.

I meant maximum temperatures.
This week it managed to get to 16 degrees (or around).

I wait until it's dark and walk around the streets and nearby quarry.
I don't seem to get sick from it, I always used to get sick when i tried to stay out of the cold, now I'm always in it I don't get sick. Early today I had the slight sign of a cold but that was because I was hanging around with a lot of people who have colds. So I have to try and stay away.

And now, everyone is worried about the swine influenza. I'm not really that worried, but I'm reading more about it now, and I'm waiting to see what will happen in the next days...

Oddly enough the Australia government is preparing for the worst.
Apparently I herd on the radio, they're preparing 9 million injections to fight it.

Sort of. There's already more than 20 possible cases of the swine influenza here in Brazil. One of those cases is in a city nearby, less than 30 mins from where I live...

...That's incredibly wrong. Like, so wrong, it's almost stupid.
There are no reported cases of swine flu in Australia. There are in New Zealand, and a group of Aussies were on a plane with the Kiwi's, but they were all tested and results came back negative, bringing our total tally to a massive...zero. None. Zilch. Etc.

Mainly because everyone with flu symptoms who have travelled recently are being admitted to hospitals for tests.
