Nothing quite like your hard drive possibly failing at the worst possible time. I feel so stupid for not backing up my files properly. If nothing fixes it I will have lost almost 3 years of DAT and all of my work on DM, coding, 3D projects...so in other words EVERYTHING. I am pretty depressed right now.

I feel your pain CarLuver. Happened to me twice. Hope you get all of your stuff back, you've spent countless of hours working on it all.

Is everyone's computer dying on them at the same time? A friend's computer's graphics processor (or whatever its called, cant remember) died 2 days ago, my Windows 8 crashed and died after installing Linux, and now CL's hard drive is gone.

What the hell.

I'm not giving up on my drive. Not yet. Startup repair has been running for 24 hours but it could take longer, I've heard as long as 3.5 days. As soon as it finishes I'm taking my important files off like a bat out of hell. Maybe now is the time to invest in an SSD and get a bigger, faster internal drive. Didn't pay $1,600 for that laptop for nothing...

Im sure everything will be fine. Otherwise...i dont know.

Invest in a 1TB external drive. That is all.

That sucks...You should be be uber-paranoid that your PC is going to brick itself any day and aim to back up your stuff at the end of each week, at least the end of each month.

Or once a day, my computer used to be set this way, connected to an external hard drive and automatically backing up everything everyday. That's the safest method I guess! At the start I even had it set to backup every hour but that was terribly useless, considering I never even had a hard drive failure in my life :D

I have good news. I am currently on Ubuntu recovering my files. Unfortunately the HDD is unable to boot Windows and there is some corruption. I think now is the time to take a break from programming, probably until the new year. Happy holidays! :P

That is...basically the exact same thing that happened to me, but for a different reason.

So you ask a question, someone kindly answers it and you tell them to shut up?

Way to be an asshole.
