Virginia Tech University, Virginia, US.
A man with a weapon that has not been identified has went to the dorms and shot dead 21 students and injuring 20 more, the man soon after comitted suicide. Police are still counting bodies and so far has it about 31 casualties. The police are still trying to keep the situation under control, and students have been advised to call their parents to tell them their status. The campus is allowing parents to come and stay on campus and talk to counslers and the police and to their children. So far this has been the worst college shooting in US history.

What a shame. :(
My regards to the parents of the murdered children.

The actual quote:

"BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing 21 people and wounding another 21 before he was killed, police said.

On the Web site, Tech reported the shootings at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus at West Ambler Johnston, a co-ed residence hall that houses 895 people, and said there were "multiple victims" at Norris Hall, an engineering building.

All entrances to the campus were closed and classes canceled through Tuesday.

"There's just a lot of commotion. It's hard to tell exactly what's going on," said student Jason Anthony Smith, 19, who lives in the dorm where shooting took place.

Aimee Kanode, a freshman from Martinsville, said the shooting happened on the 4th floor of West Ambler Johnston dormitory, one floor above her room. Kanode's resident assistant knocked on her door about 8 a.m. to notify students to stay put.

"They had us under lockdown," Kanode said. "They temporarily lifted the lockdown, the gunman shot again."

"We're all locked in our dorms surfing the Internet trying to figure out what's going on," Kanode said.

Madison Van Duyne, a student who was interviewed by telephone on CNN, said, "We are all in lockdown. Most of the students are sitting on the floors away from the windows just trying to be as safe as possible."

It was second time in less than a year that the campus was closed because of a shooting.

In August 2006, the opening day of classes was canceled and the campus closed when an escaped jail inmate allegedly killed a hospital guard off campus and fled to the Tech area. A sheriff's deputy involved in the manhunt was killed on a trail just off campus.

The accused gunman, William Morva, faces capital murder charges."

This isn't the first time this has happened, something similar happened and you can even see it on security camera footage.

It was even at a school where part of there name said something like "School of the Rebels" or something similar, at least about 12 students where shot dead, there may have been more I can't remember but this guy who killed them had a Uzi and also committed suicide after doing it.

Why do it when your not alive to enjoy the prison sentence.
I just don't understand these people.

Yeah. it was just on the news last night that there have been about 6 school shootings in the US but this is the worst.

One was late sixties and twelve were killed. the gunman was taken out by the police.

Late eighties an 11 year old and 13 year old set off a fire alarm and hid in the bushes outside to shoot anyone that came out 10 died. including 2 teachers. they commited suicide.

16 year old in 1998 kills his grandparents then goes to the school where 11 were killed, he then took his own life.

Colunmbine obviously. 15 dead 20 wounded. They commit suicide.

and now this one just yesterday. there are some screwed up people in this world. But someone even made a game about colunmbine where you get to play the two kids. that is real sick.

I can't remember which of them but "GTA" has taken the blame for a couple of incidents which has happened. But most of them was where only a few people got killed, GTA is about mass murder is a wonder why these bigger thing haven't been blamed by GTA.

Maybe it's just about the sick people you where talking about.

Im pleased I live in a place where its illegal to have firearms without permits. Our policemen arent even armed normally. Thats probably why GTA etc is so popular here. But I think its better if people do it in a game than reall life.

Some people do get into the state of mind where they can think there in the game they like it so much, causing mass problems if they really think they want to be the character.

You'd probably say to the biggest GTA fan, do you dream you play as the guy in GTA doing what you want shooting up gangsters and running from the cops and he would probably say yes.

I would admit to that slightly I do play DRIV3R to the point I wish I were tanner in a slightly mannered way. At least tanners a cop and not respected as a mass murderer :)

Now I probably would never repeat the actions in any game especially that game "Postal 2" where you can basically do anything, even to the point when you can urinate on people. But you have to note that some people out there just like what they see in a game and would love to do that in live not noticing the horrible outcomes and when they come to realize this, this is when they commit suicide.

I truly think games are a great thing which enables you to do something which you would never do in real life and I'm greatful for that but there are just some people who have to ruin your fun and that's no fun.

It really annoys me how all the research into games by media etc focusses on the negative side of gaming. it is only a small percentage of games that contain offensive content anyway.

when you see games like need for speed getting blamed, that is just ridiculous; I read somewhere that need for speed was blamed for a fatal street racing car crash, as a copy of the game was found under one of the seats. To blame the game is plain stupid, chances are they bought the game beacuase they are a street racer, as opposed to being a street racer because they brought the game.

I have seen one bit of positive research into video games, a small article in my local paper. Apparantly games satisfy some "inner need" and it can be benificial to play them in moderation :)
