As every cop he should carry his service weapon but in tougher situations (heavier fire, out of bullets) he could pick the weapons from the bad guys.

I second this.

He has proven to be too "trigger happy" in Driv3r, they shouldn't allow him to carry guns :3
Besides, if he's such a good driver he should just focus on driving, gun fights are clearly not for him. His car should be the weapon. Like the driver from that AWESOME movie Drive (2011) would say: "I don't carry a gun. I drive."

I dunno, this question is sort of silly. At least the way I see it.

Of course the officer should carry his service pistol with him by default. However, he should be able to have access to other police issued weapons that might be stored in the car, like shotguns or perhaps a personal backup weapon, let's say a 38. revolver. :D

Obviously Tanner is in his element behind the wheel, but there should be a gun popping in every now and then to make it at least slightly more believable. Besides, high speed chases and weapons go well with eachother. I don't mean anything like uh, Tanner would randomly lean out of car and start emptying his gun out, but perhaps getting shot at from a moving car or something like that.

This being a great example of one where guns and high speeds go well with along eachother:

No problem! I like how it's one of those chases where cops aren't portrayed as total retards who can't even keep up and smash into traffic cars/objects all the time (Hi, original Gone in Sixty Seconds. I'm pointing at you). It also makes them more intense and usually fast paced. There's that thrill to it.
