If once day it has been decided that the next Driver will be called Driver 5, I may open Driver-5.com, who knows :D.

I'm closing it because I have no time, and a lot of things don't work. My host sucks. And tu run a site and get members to need to invest your time in your site, and time is what I don't really have ...
I must admit this one doesn't do the best job, perhaps because I don't have much time to change they style and everything. But then again I'm starting to spend more time managing the DriverWiki and that will be the main source of news/information and this will primarily be used for community based discussion.
This is not the same thing, Driver-4.com is my spare time, DriverWiki is your school Project ( no ? ). In March I need to have a prepared portfolio for my new media school in september, I need proffessional photos and a movie, that takes a lot of time ! And I can't work on 2 site at the same time, I'm already working on one, which is my personal electronic portfolio, and this has priority.

Well it's not 100% school project, but mostly. Its odd too, I still feel reluctant to work on it for some reason. I guess this is because I'm so busy with other subjects and all that other stuff I do unrelated to driver and summative school work.

I'm slowly setting up a electronic portfolio but probably won't spend much time on it until it's necessary. I think school finishes for me on October 31st and then there is a week of exams and two to three weeks later is graduation. Once all that's out the way I'll probably spend a little more time template-ing the wiki, working on a portfolio and preparing for my next stage of education.
bb_42001 wrote:how did you know it was a school project?
Because I told everyone in a DriverWiki announcement.

The Project has to be something that requires community involvement, I'm sure you all know where that fits in 8). Out of everyone doing the subject I'm sure mine requires the most community involvement because the internet is so big and there are tones of places to organize the work for the DriverWiki.

I wished I actually got the wiki up and running last year, and could use this time to organize editors straight from the start but the project also consisted of writing a lot of my own content.

you make it sound like a bad thing
what are you implying?

Its something I was planning to do back in late 2006, but never got enough time to do much. So this year I decided to make it part of a school project so I could spend some more time to working on it.

My plans for the project was to make it publicly editable, and that's the community involvement aspect that the project requires.

It will be nice to see the Driver Wiki. I also feel glad that this place will not just become a static museum piece.

That's funny. Look, I guess maybe I should not have made those last two comments in this topic, but the Driver Wiki was being mentioned by others, and when I read that Driver-4.com is closing it made me think of what seemed at times might be the possible mothballing of the DriverMadness.net forum in the fashion of the Atari Driver forum. I am sorry to know that, by the way. I never joined Driver-4.com, but I liked the website and there was so muich work put into it.

No I'm gonna close it and keep it on locahost. It's strange because the forums were never really active, they were problems with confirmation e-mails and not many people joined, but the section of the site were a lot more active. Like if there was a registration problem on the site, or maybe people just don't wanted to register ( and to post on the site, there's no need to register ).

lol thanks

Nah, he can't really help me. I would have to reinstall a lot of things, and I don't know if it's worth. Why should I have a forum about Driver 4 ? You already have this one.

Coyote's driver 4 forums worked.
He just closed them because I believe he has no time to maintain them.
And coyotes looks much better because he found the time to template them. Unfortunately I don't have the time and when I did have time my designing skills level wasn't as good but I believe it's much improved now. So maybe one day I might just template these forums.

and I actually did a while ago, but that was on the old version of the forums and I never finished it which was kind of annoying.

If your going to close the forums, I'd usually lock the entire thing, setting it to read-only so everyone can revisit their posts in the future. I was really annoyed when I knew the Atari forums were going to delete all the driver posts, turns out it was an april fools joke (so that was a good thing).

If your ever going to take it offline, I'm happy to achieve it here and to pay for it's domain to live on 8) .

I'd love to merge the boards, but it's a big job trying to merge user accounts, the time that takes is almost pointless but would be awesome in a way.

You would exactly have to re-install it just copy all the files and the database change the config files and it should work. Would take me an hour but Coyotes hosting situation is a little different not as efficient.

I'll just leave that option open, if you

I don't know what I will do with the site but the idea to put the forums so that people can still read them is a good idea. However I don't even have time to do this, because there's no single "read"-mode that puts everything in the "read"-mode, but I would have to change the permissions for the usergroup "Registered Users" for ALL Forums and that takes a lot of time. I'll see if I can find time to do this.
