Discussion for Driver: San Francisco (2011)

Seriously, something needs to be done. :P

We either need updates for Driver: San Francisco, or we need a spin-off Driver, like Driver 76 was. Not a whole new Driver, I can wait with that and prefer that they take their time.

So here are my ideas. If we go for an update for Driver: San Francisco, then we need:

- All bugs fixed

- Different spawn points / tracks / & start vehicles for all online games

- A few new challenges, activities and dares

- For PC & Mac versions, trams on the streets and all traffic on the streets. I know that this was a memory thing, but my computer is powerful enough to handle it. If the computer is not powerful enough, maybe an option that detects its specs and automatically disables trams and switches back to the "rotating car slots" system (working this time, as mentioned in the bugs list above).

That would be on my wishlist. I don't ask for more. I don't ask for the 70s mode because at the moment it feels special and rare for me, if we had an option for that I would overuse it and it would become boring, whereas this way it keep me attracted to the game :D

If we have a spin-off… then that's a little more work, but still nothing compared to making a whole new game.

This spin-off should be kept very simple. It won't carry a new story in the same city like Driver 76 did, but instead it will have no story and come in a new city! Or maybe new cities.

What I wish is:

- A game totally based on Driver: San Francisco

- 2 cities: Miami, and New York. (from Driver 3) Maybe the little part of Louisiana (Stuntman) for a few challenges. Maybe first only Miami and the others as DLC for this spin-off?

- A menu like the one in Driver: San Francisco: "Story" is now "Take a Ride" — you can choose a city and go cruising around there. All cars from Driver: SF, all peds, the weather, and all objects from DSF. Cars can vary of course, we don't want Bay Area police cars in Miami.

- No film director. It's probably just too much work and as much as I love it, I have Driver: SF for that.

- Metromover and NY subway can be based on DSF tram files.

- Challenges, activities and dares: also a 70s mode for some challenges like in Driver: SF :)

- Online mode: all game modes from Driver: SF

We need either: a petition, a donation :D

Who's in?

Something needs to be done here !!

Also, if DLC came out, would you buy it? Or would you not? I personally would.

I agree, they still can reuse Driver SF engine for another game of the series (either a spin off or a sequel) because they spent a lot years working in this engine. But it's hard to tell now, probably they're busy with Watch Dogs and also we're near to a new generation of consoles, but i remember that Driver Parallel Lines was released for sixth generation of consoles despite of the release of new consoles, same situation happened with Driver 2, so we can hope for another game with Driver SF engine.

Yeah of course for the next Driver game I absolutely want the DSF engine. It's just way too good!

But I mean as for the spin-off, it would be almost no work. I mean, I'd say it would be a month of work or so. They don't even need all people to work on it, just a dozen or so, and most of the stuff is already done: vehicles from DSF, maps from Driver 3, etc. I mean, they just need to put it all together, and we would have a great spin off with challenges and online mode while waiting. I mean I know it's more than "putting stuff together", but c'mon it's nothing compared to making a new game.

It's curious idea, i would to see that kind of mix. Maps of Driv3r have aged very well and they fit good for Driver SF engine, for the devs is probably easier to that kind of stuff like importing the maps of Driv3r to Driver SF engine because they use their custom software.

Also wouldn't be a bad idea to remaster Driver 2 for PC with online mode. I wish that the older games of the series had online mode, it would be fun. I heard a rumor that Driver 2 can be played online (2 players) using hamachi, but i don't know if it really works since i didn't try it.

If I had more programming buddies to help out with decoding the model file format in D3/DPL we could probably arrange something. The formats are very similar and I wouldn't be surprised if we managed to import New York into D3 and Miami into DPL.

Man forget about Driver 3 and DPL! I loved those games back then and I still love the mood they have, but I recently played both and if I have to judge them objectively, they just aren't what they used to be — which is completely normal.

The only good thing left are the cities! Mash that up with DSF and there you have a perfect game. I would love to recreate the mood also, by using the actual music from those games. Just imagine, drifting through the streets of Manhattan in a red Oldsmobile 442 with black stripes while listening to those songs from DPL :P Or doing jumps near Tanner's house in Miami in a DSF Firebird while listening to 'Destiny' !! :D

I've also thought of missions that could be recreated if similar cars are available and if there's only driving. It would be so f*cking cool! :D

But seriously, we need either a spin off with those cities or updates for DSF… it's so frustrating, I'm thinking of doing my own video game!

From Ubisoft we can only expect a new game, and this is going to take a while as Reflections is busy with Watch Dogs . If they wanted to fix all theses things, they could have done it a long time ago.
