I got "Driver: Parallel Lines" game a few days ago and joined this forum. I'm interested in modifying the "levels.txt" file. There are levels called "No Cops" and "No Missions" for 1978 and 2006 versions of NYC. Why not "No Cops and No Missions" level? If I use the "No Missions" level, will there be cops chasing me? I found out that the 3D model of NYC is NOT realistic. For example, there are elevated track structures in Manhattan (1978 version). The last elevated track structure for the 3rd Avenue route was torn down in 1950s. The only elevated track structures remaining are the elevated track structure for the IRT "1" route in Upper Manhattan and the abandoned elevated track structure for New York Central Railroad in Midtown Manhattan. I think that NYC can't tear down the abandoned elevated track structure for NYC RR because it supports some of the buildings where the trains run through. I think that NYC is planning to turn the elevated track structure into some kind of a park. I think that "Test Drive Unlimited" game is the first driving game to have a realistic 3D model of the Hawaii island. I found out that the next "Grand Thief Auto" game will have a realistic 3D model of NYC but I won't buy that game because it's too violent. Both bad guys and cops were shooting me all of the times in "GTA: San Andreas" game. The cops in D:PL shoot me only when they chase me.

unfortuanatly I don't have dpl running at the moment, since I'm on holiday I got a slow laptop and I tried someones PC and it's using an unsupported graphics card with no hardware clip planes.

However your No Cops and No Mission idea seems great! I suggest you experiment with it to see what you can do. Most likely you'll be able to do loads of different types of things.

Also don't forget to check out the moods folder which you can also edit with notepad. Editing the levels.txt file is something simple to start off with and then you can edit the moods and fmv's and then off to editing ingame textures.

I'm one day hoping we can find someone experience enough so maybe we could map the game as well as import music and things like that. So I'm waiting till that day comes.

and the only reason Test Drive Unlimited and GTAIV looked so good with great 3D models is because it's a next generation game so for now it's best to wait for umm... lets say codename "drIVer" or "driver 5". The Next generation driver release and there you'll find way better graphics, but there hasn't been much word on the next driver release only that there going to do a fairly big good exciting job on it ever since ubi acquired the franchise so we can expect it to be good.

DRIV3R was quite annoying with people shooting at you to, well mainly only in survival. San Andreas is horrible to, if you don't like the gangs try the gang respect mod or something like that.

But here we want to mod driver: parallel lines so lets focus on that!

I tried to edit the levels.txt file but the game displays the Microsoft send/don't send message. Saved games are stored in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Games\Driver Parallel Lines

Where "User" is the name that you use to log into Windows XP.

Your modified version of dpl isn't modified correctly so it errors and can't proceed.

In some cases it's a trial n. error thing however it is possible to edit the levels.txt file without this happening, try restoring a backup of your levels.txt file or reinstall the game and try editing and changing fewer variables.

GTA: IV is in a redesigned Liberty City (NOOOOO!) because the NYC mayor didn't want it to be there (yet DPL is!) so it'll have some differences from actual NYC.
