You double posted that. Not on purpose i guess.
"If I'd come here to kill you, you'd be dead"
I didn't find that very funny really but i like at the begginig, and i don't know how the whole scene goes so you might have to whatch it.
Tanner: Have you got anything contructive to say?
Jones:... No.

Tanner - a symbol of series Driver. But ТК to me too has liked. Especially after an exit from prison. He became much more cool.

Yeah, in the 2006 era he become a bit more like Tanner, in a darker style in a darker era. TK in 78 was alright but he never had any style.

He had a little style if we were to watch him in 1978 :P
But in 2006 his way better!

When I first played the game I'm sure he was way better in 1978 but now it's 2006. It's interesting how this changes from time to time.

I'm never really sure what it was about TK he just bugs me. There probably is no real reason. don't you ever just get a bad vibe of someone? And what are these points and donating things. i feel tempted to click it but i dont know what it'll do.

Maybe you should go back to dpl and complete the game whenever you can find the game on ps2, it might competently change your thoughts around on the subject.

Maybe an off-topic subject, but points is the new driver madness reputation system, see this for more information.

Wow. that points thing is slightly confusing. I am still looking for DPL though. and yeah your right. i might look at it differently if i see TK in a different light. ie 2006 period.

You know what, after playing all 4 main Driver games in consecutive order recently, I find that my outlook on this little debate has completely changed.

TK is a much better character than Tanner. He goes through personal hardship and learns the truth about his position in society and the nature of his brother. TK's story has purpose and intrigue, what the hell does Tanner's have?

In all honesty, Tanner is a very boring character, in the first game he barely talks. In D2, he talks but it always revelves around the case, same thing with Driv3r. We know nothing about him...Tanner just seems so souless and empty.

obviously you played "Driver: Parallel Lines", but what was it that you liked about Tanner and hated about TK?

There are so many views out there, I'm just wondering what your views on this case may be?

He probally didnt like TK because the driver series was not about TK, it was Tanner, the game was about tanner, who was an undercover cop in the 70s. now thats what the series was about and thgats the game i liked!

I like Tanner because he is more mature than T.K. and he is a COP.
I like COPS and he was in all of the driver games.

I think Tanner is cooler than TK and I think it doesn't matter if someone is cool or not, he has to scar you, to look angry, serious,…

The thing is about Tanner that cops don't let you know about their lives. you are always in secrecy as especially in tanners case if it gets out a lot of people could get hurt because of what he knows. and TK was just a D@#k

I can agree wholeheartedly that many games are emotionally driven through evolving characters and done successfully well; example: most Final Fantasy games. Let's take another perspective through and then touch base with the Driver series.
The Legend of Zelda series supplied me and millions of others with some of the best gameplay, musical score, and story. I even had a tear drop for the ending of Ocarina of Time. The quirk? Link never says one word through any of Nintendo liscensed games, unless you count "YAHHH!", "EYYEEHH!", or "HHAAHH!". They're beautiful and the story is beautiful; An overwhelming emotional experience.
Now, I can respect the debate between TK and Tanner. I am just throwing the bone that there's a large stylistic difference between both and that Tanner hasn't even retained a permanent figure; he has changed throughout all the games. Anyways, I want to make a point...

We must NOT forget that some games are character driven and some are gameplay driven. I am certain Driver and its followers were gameplay driven. Fully enveloped characters spilling their life story and special moments would be awkward and take away from this main idea. Personally, I believe the best story is told in Driver 2. It's dark, gritty, to-the-point, and damn't, drive Tanner. THAT'S what it's about. I even loved Driver (1) for it's simple character nature. Every other character is leaving phone messages for you to do and you just follow, you drive.

In games such as these that provide so much freedom, it's a hard swallow when you have huge egos and permanent personality trademarks like in Driver 3 and Driver: PL. It becomes stiff and restrained. I really don't look at either Tanner in D3 or TK, although I've played them both. No offense, but I was laughing hysterically when in D3 Tanner, being voiced by hotshot Madsen, and Jones, voiced by hotshot Rhames, were just chuggin' on Sobe together, whoring out the series "Driver what? We LOVE our Sobe!". Many have stated D3 and PL have failed because of their neglect of gameplay and investing of all funding in music titles from artists, celebrity voicing, advertising, and promotion, but hey, I will remain neutral there. I can see where it's coming from but I really think it just takes away from the experience of, just driving. Driver and Driver 2 are still my favorite and part of the reason is the delivery of the characters. It's not about THEM, it's about the action and the driving! And for THAT reason, it's Tanner in Driver 2 that wins my vote for his unrelenting pursuit of the goal with little emotional display; he's a complete badass! (Other badasses that do not show emotion; Solid Snake, Dirty Harry, Michael Myers, etc). It could've been Driver (1) just as easily, which falls second, but the story was better written and had more elements to it in Driver 2. They played Tanner's character to just the right amount.

Just thinking with an open mind...sorry about the length

Don't apoligise for the length of the posts. It's always good to see people have a big opinion and it's better than a single post of
lol
Unfortunatly i don't remember the D2 story line... uhh? At all actually. COuld you sort of give me an idea that may boost my memory.

Well okay, they are two gangs, one in South America, one in North America. The gang leader of the North American gang is Solomon Caine. And the leader from the other gang is Alvaro Vasquez. Vasquez starts making deals and jobs in the USA but Caine doesn't like that. So you, Tanner, you're working for Caine and for Vasquez. Vasquez thinks you're working for him, Caine thinks your working for him, but in reality, your
working for McKenzie (FBI) with Tobias Jones, your partner.
And then there' something with Pink Lenny. I forget what, but i think HE know that you're an undercover cop and he wants to tell it Vasquez and Caine … or something like that.
At the end Vasquez and Caine apologize …

I think that's it :?

Coyote's got the jist of things but just to add:

Tanner's helps out Caine's gang while Jones works for Vasquez. There's a difference between the two.

Pink Lenny betrays Caine and only works for Vasquez, he knows that Tanner is a cop that's why he's trying to get away from him.

The ending makes no sence because yeah Caine and Vasquez make up, but think about it, Tanner/Jones work with Caine so if Caine is a Brazilian gangster why doesn't he tell Vasquez that Jones is a cop and why does Caine even want Lenny dead if he's technically on his side, the ending just confuses me unless of coarse Caine and Vasquez are sworn enemeis and they trully settle their differences at the end, but that's never really specifies so who knows!

For Daltarin-Elite if he cares:

How can you sell a driver-game
The ending makes no sence because Caine and Vasquez make up.
And I guess this is the reason why Jericho killed Caine in Driv3r.

The problem is that is you buy them now, it isn't the same version as the version from 1999 (and 2000). I noticed that they are a few changes, for example the cover, the rating here is +12 now (at the time it was +6) and I guess they are some changes in the gameplay and they probably removed some scenes or missions.
A good example that this happens sometimes (that they change things) is DPL: in the first version (2006) the prison bus was a secret vehicle and you couldn't get it outside of he mission, and now in 2007, Ubisoft changed that and prison busses are driving in the streets now.
But I think that was a mistake to do this. Before the game came out, they said that they will be secret cars in the game. And the prison bus is one of them.
That makes one less hidden car for the people who bought the game in 2007.
