I don't understand the question...
Do you mean do i think the next game will follow the trends of 76 and D:PL or return to tanner?
If so I think that the series will undoubtedly re-invent its self completely, however I would love a spin off along the lines of being tanners apprentice on taking down the racket that almost killed him and finding they have grown in the years he was ill to become massive illegal car importers, drug smugglers and human traffickers.
Or did you mean do I think that D:PL & 76 was part of the main series or just a spin off?
In which case yes, I doubt such a large project would be considered a mere spin off when the franchise isn't vast to start with!
If you meant something else, apologies, but that is my opinion^^^
