I'm not sure how childish these games are or whether i should still be playing since i'm sixteen in a month, but they are just addictive.

They have a great storyline, great characters, great weapons. It's all just strangely fun, and they are also some of the funniest games out there.

The original Ratchet and Clank was one of the six release games for the PS2 and it remains today to be one of the most popular PS2 titles ever.

Locked and loaded was the second attempt and once more they pulled it off amazingly with big open cities and more stuff than the original. In y opinion this is the best out of all of them.

Up Your Arsenal, took things a little more riskily by inrtoducing mild adult themes that made the game better for those who were older, but didn't effect those who were young. I wonder how many eight year olds got the title Up Your Arsenal?

An even more risque title than the last. Size Matters for the PSP. I haven't actually played this game, but from what i've heard it is really good.

And finally, the soon to be released. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction. This game is set to be one of the best games for the PS3 and from what i've seen that's the truth. There are almost as many moveable joints in ratchets face (90) than there were in his whole body (112) in the PS2 versions. Also now you can see individual strands of hair on his face, ears and tail.

The story line should also be great. For those who don't know. Ratchet is a lombax, and one of the last lombax's seen in a long time. Ratchet wonders what happened to his ancestors but when he tries to find out he is attcked by someone who wishes to destroy him as the last lombax in the universe.

For those who always wondered like i did, where his ancestors were, this is our chance to find out.

Time to get a PS3

I did that too when i got driv3r (at about the same time actually), but in the last week i just started playing them again and i think they're great.

I don't have a favourite really. But those two games have some huge competiton. Both Jak and Ratchet games come out about the same time.

First the original two with the PS2 release games.
Then the next two within a month of each other.
The next two within a month of eachother.
Each has a PSP game now within two months of each other
and both are bringing out a PS3 game near the end of this year or begining of next year.

First of all, there's nothing wrong in playing a platformer like Ratchet and Clank no matter what your age. The series has always been fun and some of the RPG elements with the guns are really cool. My favorite part is also Going Commando since well its the most refined. Part 1 is a little plain and part 3 focuses too much on online play.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction looks amazing and that'll defintely be one of the first games I buy when I get my PS3 this winter. From what I've seen in the gameplay vids, the gameplay and graphics will be great.

Jak in my opinion is superior though. Daxter is hilarious and the voice acting in those games is top-notch. Mission and gameplay variety is also better. I have the 3 main ones and I would have to say that Jak 2 is my favorite followed by Jak 3 and then Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. The reason is because I like the difficulty of part 2 though, the ending in Jak 3 is priceless....hopefully after Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Naughty Dog will develop another Jak game...

Yeah. the ending in Jak 3 really tops the whole series off for me. I know someone who had been an avid fan of the series and one of my friends was there when the truth was finally announced about the precursers he aparently screamed in horror and was in denial until the game ended, he was just waiting for one of them to say it was just a joke. Mind you, this is the same guy that cried when Darth Vader was killed.

And Tools of Destruction is definatly one of the first games on my list when i finally buy a PS3 aswell.

Hve you seen the gameplay vids for Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction? The crappy thing though is that we won't see a new Ratchet and Clank game for a few years after TOD since Insomniac will move to Resistance Fall of Man 2 next. Though, I like that franchise too so I don't mind too much.

As for the Jak 3 ending....I thought it was alright, Daxter finally got his due. The wasteland driving gameplay was really cool and as always, the cutscenes and VO were amazing.

I haven't played resistence. I've pretty much told myself i cannot play on or even touch a PS3 or its controller until i own one myself. and i'm trying to downlaod a TOD movie now but it takes a long time on dial up.

Nice, I actually pretty much follow the same code, I haven't really played a PSP either but I getting one in 2 weeks along with Driver 76 (and some other games)

I for the most part just watch/stream the videos from Gametrailers, I don't download since its really not necessary but some of the developer interviews and walkthroughs for TOD are really interesting.

Yeah i'm still trying. But while doing other things on the net slows it sown amazingly. I was downlaoding the trailer for the game. When it started it said 3 hours, now i'm on madness it says 6 hours. Hows that for proficiency.

After starting off with driver as one of my first games I have just about lived with the driving games, particularly the driver series.

I have only ever vered from this pattern which I don't have access to a powerful pc or laptop or xbox/ps which I'm able to play driver on so then I play other games which don't use as much resources like Duke Nukem 3D and Max Payne!

I have played many other games but usually not much longer than a couple of hours, I recently purchased Far Cry, it's a great game but dosen't hold up to the fun I have in Driver: Parallel Lines.

Having this mindset I've never tried games like "Ratchet And Clank" which you may call childish and I most likely would call childish. But as moonchild said lots of older people play these games and it sounds like the future versions are making use of better hardware being able to see individual hairs and stuff like that!

Well, I think you should give it a go, who knows, you might surprise yourself, i certainly did when i realised i was in love with a game the had a big friendly green G on the front. Personally i like the blue M logos better.

Ratchet and Jak are the only G games i'll play though.

Just give it a go though, rent it out, you can probably clock it in the time you have, and it shouldn't be that expensive. Maybe $7?

The problem is what defines childish? The Jak and Ratchet games feature some light and heavy story tones and the narrative has a lot of adult humour. The reason for the early and unnecessary sterotype is because these games are bright and colorful. Whatever the case is, I still like them.

Plus, you can't just keep playing driving games, you have to broaden your gaming horizon a bit to experience new things you know. I love driving games and Driver is my favorite franchise/series but my prefered genre is actually RPG's, mostly JRPG's though like FF, DQ, Shin Megami Tensei and almost anything developed by Level 5. Among others aswell.

On that unrelated note, another great "childish" franchise are the Sly Cooper games, especially Sly 2.

Sly was okay for the demo i thought but when i rented the game i thought it was kind of dull.

Who else has played Whiplash? you know the one where you play the fox chained to a rabbit and you use the rabbit as a weapon.

I played a demo of Whiplash, I wasn't too impressed. The whole concept was kind of funny but the actual gameplay was dull.

I used to like the Crash and Spyro games but when the licenses were sold and new studios developed the game, well, the quality went down the toilet. It just shows you how talented Naughty Dog and Insomniac really are.

Yeah, the gameplay was dull but i just thought the idea was great. And i didn't know that Crash and Spyro had changed hands, i was looking at renting some new crash game the other day, one that came after twinsanity but got harry potter 5 instead cause it was the only one in the series i hadn't played.

And yes insomniac is great. Spyro was good but Ratchet is better. I think i saw the name Naughty Dog on a game i played recently, but i dont know what it was. Do they have anything to do with the Jak series.

Man, am I the only one who knows the details here, hell I'm not even a geek and I know this stuff.

Anyways the facts:

Naughty Dog made Crash 1-3, Crash Team racing. All the PS2 Crash games were made by studios owned by Universal (that's why they were multiplatform unlike the previous Sony exclusives)

All the Jak games (Jak 1-3, Jak X) are also made by Naughty Dog and after there next project ships (Uncharted: Drakes Fortune for only the PS3-awesome game, comes out in November 2007) there most likely going to do another jak game so atleast that franchise won't get dragged through the mud.

Insomniac did the first few Spyro games but the PS2 ones are again buy differnt development teams (that's why they suck) they also do all the Ratchet games and know there also responsible for the ever growing Resistance franchise. Basically, Insomniac will swith development between those two series throught out the next few years.

Anyway i just never knew about the switch in developers cause i stopped playing them when i got the PS2 cause there were better games i could be playing. I knew about RAtchet and Resistence being with Insomniac and always suspected Jak to be with naughty dog cause the competition between those companies is huge just like the comp between jak and ratchet.

Not really, since development teams are around a 100 members and you never want two of your own games competing against themselves for sales.

Naughty Dog and Insomniac are good friends actually and they share technology between themselves. Both franchises and companies are doing well and sequels to are favored franchises are coming so all is well. And too add, its all PS3 exclusive...

Just because the companies work together doesn't mean they cant be competitive, they poke fun at eachothers games all the time, like the Ratchet and Clank gun range in Jak 3 so you can shoot the oposition.
