I just watched the first GTA IV trailer and it seems that GTA IV will be based in Liberty City (based on New York, it was in GTAIII). So are R* taking the piss out of DPL? Seriously? The same city as in DPL!

According to http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=271120

It's going to be based off Liberty City from GTAIII, but do you think they are getting revenge at the Driver series, again?

I don't think there getting revenge on the Driver series (though their probally will be a satirical reference to the series) but instead I think their just continuing the story from GTA III.

Well I just looked at the screenshots and I finally thinking they have just caught up to the quality of the DRIVER series on PC and XBOX, The quality it starting to look as realistic as the DRIVER series and I think they really knew that realism was one of there biggest weaknesses and know that they are working out that there DRIVER series would have been way better than them they have decided to catch up in the quality side of things since it doesn't look as cartoony anymore.

Well they arent taking the piss from driver. and GTA did New York first. maybe as it was that they had just realeased liberty city stories but i don't think it will be called that it the game any more. i think in this game people will refer to it as new york. this game definatly seems darker and i don't think there is going to be much black humour and hoe pimping going on in it either.

Well i guess you people dont realize it but GTA5 is going to be in AN ACTUAL LISCENSED NEW YORK. Liberty City and The new york they used in DPL and GTA 3 were not actually liscensed- kinda like TC NYC

I looked at the trailer 1 for the gtaiv game and compared it with dpl and it looks very similar, some of the popular buildings, coney island and things like that.

The Liberty City from GTA IV has nothing more to do with the Liberty City from GTA III and GTA: Liberty City Stories.
It's rebuild and remade, from A to Z.

I don't think this really had anything to do with the driver series, really just the fact that they wanted to go back to the beggining with a new character.

Maybe they just wanted to go back to the beginging where the gta series really left of and started. I think it's an idea they will also take on every time there is a new generation in the world of gaming.

No, just becuase GTA IV is taking place in a LC that looks more like NYC does not mean the are ripping off Driver PL, Rockstar says that ever since they finished san Andreas that they knew they we're going to have GTA IV set in Liberty City.

EDIT: Looks better than Driver Sedan, and WAY better than True Crime and Saints Row

I think their's actually a (small) possibility that GTA IV could be kinda crappy.

If you know anything about the game's publisher(Take-Two) you know their in financial problems. Now, if it weren't for the GTA licence, TT would have filled for bankruptcy a long time ago.
Taking recent events in to account- the company's top lawyer, accounting officer and founder/CEO admitted falsifying business records in relation to the companies stock position. Also, Manhunt recieved an AO rating which resulted in it getting banned across Europe, this caused TT to delay the game indefinentely.

Now, onto GTA IV. If you watched Gametrailers E3 videos- namely the "most dissapointed game" video you would see that GT listed Grand Theft Auto 4 in the catergory. They said that after watching(behind closed doors) the onstage demo, that the game wasn't without it's roughspots and that it needed alot of work. The game's official release date is October 16 2007, that's not alot of time before the game goes "gold" And given TT's financial situation, they definentely don't want to miss the holiday season so GTA IV could turn into D3- a rushed and buggy game. Then again, it could be great, time will tell...

yeah, I think when developers try and do a really excellent job by pushing the consoles to their limits they run into major problems just like driv3r and then when they get to putting the game together they notice that it's just not going to be able to work and then they have no time to look at the problem and then they are unable to fix it up making the game appeal horrible and infact I kind of have this idea that'll turn out bad. But with GTAs reputation everyone knows about it and you sort of wonder, such a large game cannot turn out like they would it, they'd have to delay it because it has so many problems but with driv3r atari couldn't fund it enough and then they just had to release it but isn't Rockstar Games the one in charge with all the money and take-two is the one in charge of the game developerment.

Take-Two Interactive is the publisher while Rockstar Games are a subsidiary branch of the company. Rockstar Games itself is split up into 7-8 divisions, and Rockstar North (A Scottish developer) is the main developer of the GTA series.

Your right, GTA's reputaion is huge, but it's completely overated. What differences are their in mission and story structure between GTA III and GTA Vice City Stories? The answer is none. Driver 1 and 2 sold over 11 million units worldwide and Driv3r was still rushed so anything can happen.

Plus, if Driver is to reclaim it's crown as king of freeroam games it needs GTA IV to stumble and falter...

Haha, Driver was never "King" and never will be, i'm sorry to say this but Driver 5, Saints Row 2, and the next True Crime game still won't do that good, and the Storyline structure of GTA III and VCS are totaly diffrent from each other, if you had even bothered to play either Games you would know that the GTA III Storyline is about a Criminal named Claude who rises in the Ranks of the Criminal latter and his quest for revenge on Catalina who betrayed him in the begining of the Game, while the VCS Storyline is about a man named Vic Vance who get dragged into all the Crime and is forced to to things he'll regret in order to pay for his brother's medicine, and GTA IV ain't gonna be be a dud, trust me, the only reason why VCS was not as popluar as the other GTA Games is becuase Rockstar wanted to focus more on GTA IV than VCS.

Yeah, well that was still Beta, i really have faith that Rockstar will clean up atleast most of the Bugs once GTA IV will come out.

No suprise there that SA was you're fav, San Andreas was probably what turned you into what you are now, i admit that VCS was not my favorite Grand Theft Auto Game, and that it did have a lot of glitches becuase Rockstar rushed it, but they wanted to focus more on GTA IV, which is looking so far fantastic. Of course you probably won't like Grand Theft Auto IV becuase it's not "gangsta" or "Hood".

Haha, your a fool. Driver was king, the original sold over 7 million unith worldwide. That's more than all the PS1/GBA/PC GTA's put together.(Basically all GTA games before GTA III)

Again, you don't know what the hell your talking about. I own all the GTA's and i've completed each 100% so don't tell me that I haven't bothered to play them. The storyline/ mission structure is always the same, you start with the crappy "drive from point A to point B crap then their's your typical go and kill this guy mission and finally the main character miracuosly build a giant empire. I mean seriously, the story in San Andreas is so stupid, their's barely any connection and all of CJ's accomplishments are laughable.(Not only does he unite the hood but he owns casino's, a rap artist, kills a mob leader and even defeats James Woods)
DRIV3RDOOD wrote:and GTA IV ain't gonna be be a dud, trust me
Are you psychic?

I'll admit, GTA IV is looking good and I'm interested in the story/main character but please, stop trying to describe the series as being godly. GTA(while being fun) is one of the most overated series in the history of gaming, along with Halo...

You obviously don't know what the f**k I'M talking about, only in GTA III, VC and LCS was it drive here and there, you didn't do that in SA or VCS, and of course you kill people in the Game it is GTA smart guy, Claude never built an empire and Rockstar even admit that they got sick of Rags to Riches thats why it won't be that way in GTA IV, and i never though of GTA as "Godly", i'm just sick of people saying crap like "OMG Grand Theft Auto is a Driver Clone", and do you know how anticipated GTA IV is? Thats how i know it's not going to be a dud like VCS kinda was. And yes, good for the original Driver, it did better than all the Original 2D GTA games put together, but when you think GTA III, VC, SA ect. ect. GTA is probably going to stay King, even with Driver, Saints Row, this 2 Days to Vegas, or True Crime trying as hard as they are when they ALL keep stealing things from GTA. And i liked the SA Storyline unlike you, though some of the missions we're a little un-realistic i admit.

You may not have used the term godly to describe the series but your definentely a GTA fanboy. I mean seriously, one of your previous posts had a pic of GTA with 5* and one with Driv3r that had 1* What do you plan to accomplish with that?

I know how anticipated GTA IV is...hell, I'm exited as well. But, VCS wasn't a dud because it was rushed. Instead, people started to realize that even though the game box says Copyright 2007, they played this game in 2002.

GTA will definentely stay king after the release of the fouth installment but after the competition(Driver, Getaway, True Crime, Saint Row etc.) releases things could (keyword being could) change.

I don't know what your talking about when you say "people saying crap like OMG Grand Theft Auto is a Driver clone" 9 out of every 10 casual gamers will say that Driver is the clone and plus, this is a Driver fansite, what do you expect?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of GTA, that's why I buy the games. So, let's just reach a neutral agreement that states that both Driver and GTA are great franchises, they have their similarities and their differences and both have their unique fanbases...
