It's funny that Sony says that they put this price to compete with the X360, which is officially available here since 2006 and costs R$ 999 (US$563).
Sure. Taxes here are way too f***ing high, but even if you buy a PS3 from stores who legally import it, it won't cost nowhere near US$1,135 (it'll cost around US$500-600)! Screw Sony and their stupid greed.
