Ever since the start of Driver Madness we have used the post count as a indicator of how much someone has contributed to this forum. It has worked alright but with content in posts varying it really isn't the best indication method. So here we introduce a new points system. A system I'm calling Driver Points were users will get paid in points for certain contributions the user with the most posts has more reputation among the streets of Driver Madness.

These points don't just work through the form you can earn points for doing anything which helps the driver community gain it's goal in many different ways. You can earn points in competitions, helping the modding community, keeping everyone up to date with the latest news and more...

Points for Posts
I'm trying to keep point usage down so we don't ever get to an amount of points which is ridiculously large. So here is a small table showing how points are given on the forums.

New Topic: 0.25points awarded
Reply: 0.0001 (per character)
100 maximum points per post.

As you can see this focus on awarding people on content and ideas rather than a few worded post.

Points for Competitions
Each competitions prize varies from weather the competition is a hard or easy job. It really depends on the difficultly, time and how well the job was done overall. Points for the competitions can be found in the competitions post starter.

Points for Contributions
You'll be awarded for doing all sorts of jobs here and there. This includes people who can help as modify the game to people who contribute to the News and things like that.

Points for Commuters
If your a regular Driver Madness Commuter you may get awarded just for showing up to regular Driver Madness related events. Including regularly visiting the forum as being able to get to the yearly anniversary chat.

Donating
You as a user also have the ability to donate to other users around the forum so if you think someone has done something really special and you'd like to award them for their work you can feel free to send them points.

You can get awarded for just about anything, as long as it's useful and doesn't get in the way others. So I hope you have fun contributing to the community to gain your reputation in the world of Driver Madness.

That is a really good idea!!! I have been thinking lately that the current post count system could be done better. someone like millers is a perfect example. If you did a word count, he would probably be miles ahead of everyone else (possibly not madness ). Great idea!!!!!

Yeah it really makes a difference when you have someone like Miller spending the time to write really, really large posts and then you have some other users who make loads of tiny posts.

like only having a little smiley or something with a word or less to Millers very, very large posts and a post goes up for either one of them.

So now it's fairer.

Well your post count will stay exactly the same, there will be a post count as well as a points count so there is nothing to be worried about.

You have your joining date, post count, location and amount of points that you have. It'll stay like this and I won't be removing post counts.

As well as the humble donate button where you can donate your points to someone if you wish.

You can donate as many points as you feel like. From 0.01 to as many points you have.

If people do a really good job, I have the ability to add points to a users account rather than donating them from my account. So that also makes it easier for things like competitions since I'm always making competitions and things like that to award people. So I'm thinking maybe I don't include myself in the final rankings, I haven't been really sure about that. But it's not like I'm going to modify my points amount to add 5 more points for no reason.

points may also be decreased if a certain user makes to many posts similar to this one, repeating the same words over and over...

It's more like 0.15 rather than 15 points.

Not sure what that's all about.

and anything in a quote box doesn't get counted, in the points system just like some of the other codes won't get counted when posting

I also might add that you earn 0.25 points for a topic and everything else in your topic gets added to that 0.25 points. So this measure will hopefully get more people making topics so there is more to talk about around the forums.

As you can see sedans only has 0.19 at the moment and he has posted a few things ever since the system was implemented. He could double that just by making a topic with some useful content in there.

After some discussion in the shoutbox about users reportedly not earning points is happening on purpose and isn't a bug in the system.

To make it official the Free Chat area in the forums don't earn you points.

I have taken this measure so we get more driver related posts on this board. After all it is a driver forum and since this points system was designed for users who contribute the "driver" in some way to gain respect and popularity within the community.

Soon I also might add points to users accounts that have done helpful and special things within the community over the past so they don't miss out on anything.

No however I am looking into adding this. At the moment I'll look around and see how much people contribute and give points to them myself. So I'll be watching!
