Driver Modding – The Secrets
It’s taken me ages to create the Driver Modding website, and there is lots of on the website, including stuff I found out about a year ago, stuff which I found to be quite awesome. I decided to keep this information secret to release exclusively on Driver Madness but apparently someone else out there has work it out and what I discovered is no longer a secret.

So I’m going to give out everything I have on what I’ve found out about DRIV3R, of course there is more which will remain exclusive for the time being, but sadly I won’t be able to surprise you about this on the release of the website on DRIV3R Modding.

This is a very weird story and in a way It’s kind of my fault, I’m getting to many people interested in modding DRIV3R again and they decided to do what I tried doing about a year ago, and seriously I thought someone would have discovered it earlier because what I’ve done is one of the simplest ways of modding DRIV3R, so to keep things short I’ll start off with saying that there are a lot of n00b’s out their, who haven’t tried the simplest things, this excludes me and sparedlife of course which bring me on to the next part of the story.

Recently I decided to contact a few people about modding DRIV3R some people interested some people who weren’t but “sparedlife” was one of the interested people still not much of a DRIV3R fan but decided to do a bit to do his part in helping out our modding community so he helped out by adding some more improvements to his tool which enables us to get into driv3r’s graphic achieves and alone the lines decided to try and do something simple and different, very simple of course. Read on to find out how simple.

In many games the same file types are always used, and sometimes we don’t even know what they are or what their purpose is and this is one of the many ways I work out what does what in the game. So let’s walk into DRIV3R and see what I mean.

When we open up driv3r there are many different files and in this example we will be taking a look in the missions’ folder. Currently you can see many different mission, sadly we haven’t worked out how to edit them so what can we do. Exactly, we can’t do much but if you think really hard there are a few things we can do, you may be thinking no way but seriously it is very possible. So once again let’s take a look at the file structure.

../Missions
../Missions/mission01.dam
../Missions/mission01.mpc
../Missions/mission02.dam
../Missions/mission02.mpc

Think once again, and you’ll notice we can do something very, very simple, as simple as using the renaming feature and renaming mission01.dam to mission02.dam and renaming mission01.mpc to mission02.mpc and vice versa. Therefore we are able to convert those two missions.

So know you know my little secret what if you decided to do something very interesting, let’s say instead of converting a Miami mission with another Miami mission lets say you converted a Miami mission with a Nice mission or a Istanbul mission with a Miami mission then things have to start going a little weird, at first I thought the game would freeze but no the game didn’t freeze and the missions worked, they just worked a little stranger than usual, you know what happens when you try a mission which your only meant to play in Miami but you decided to play it in nice, well the co-ordinates won’t work with Istanbul so you just start in some random place on the map making your possibilities’ almost in faint and this is exactly the secret which I was trying to hide from you getting all the cars from Miami into Nice with just different files.

Just to give you an idea of in faint possibilities try putting Nice survival in place of Miami Survival, this was one interesting combination, I was successfully able to play a nice car in Miami at a different position, the starting position was in the air as it would be very unlikely to be in starting at the ground as Nice is a very bumpy place and none of the co-ordinations would even be close to the same, as all 3 cities are map out fairly differently, which makes it hard to get a successful switch. You can also take a look at a video which I created that you can take a look at later on when I upload it, which shows us exactly what I’m talking about in this scenario.

So know you all know this maybe I’ll start organising everyone into working out which combinations are the best, I don’t feel really happy about releasing the secret but since someone else found it out, it was no longer a secret so I thought I may as well tell you all about it.

Wow... that is really simple. I'm amazed no-one else has thought of it. What happens if you only convert the .dam, and not the .mpc? (or vice versa)

That could be something you could try, it's always good to experiment. Anyways I'm sure this won't work because the .dam file contains all the textures which are only used in that particular mission and the .mpc files are the actual mission scripts.
