Now i know that neither of these things will be coming to the next driver game as they are currently exclusive to lucasarts but who knows, maybe they may be in the game after.

Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) by Pixelux Entertainment

What is DMM?

DMM -- exclusive to LucasArts for any game releases through September 2008 -- brings an unprecedented level of realism to the new generation of consoles by making completely interactive environments that react as they would in real life. From crumbling walls to shattering glass and even swaying organic plant life, in-game objects have material properties that behave realistically all in real time and without using a single frame of animation.

If a structure exists -- big or small, dense or thin, floppy or rigid -- DMM causes it to react in the same way dictated by reality. For example, unlike what you'd see in games of the previous generation, wood doesn't simply break apart along a predetermined seam every time -- rather, it splinters into countless pieces from the exact point of impact, also taking into account the amount of sheer force exerted. The same rules apply to any substance imaginable: Rubber bends and snaps back into place. Glass shatters. Crystal fractures. Stone crumbles. etc.

Euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd.

What is Euphoria?

A revolutionary behavioral-simulation engine, euphoria simulates the unpredictability of real life where no two experiences are ever the same. For the first time ever, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff ever single time.

Wouldn't it be great to see this kind of stuff in the next game?

Sounds good. Does GT5 or GTHD use Euphoria ?

What your saying is possible and is used in the current generation of xbox360's and ps3, one day a driver game will do exzactly this, infact every game will be doing things like this.

Maybe not in the ps3 generation because there may need a really good cpu present but that may not be good enough. I know DIRT uses some of these techniques but cannot use them all, because too much cpu usage would be needed.

So we have a Film Director (replays), lots of traffic and/or this idea. All these ideas use up a lot of cpu, so it's the idea of elimination, we could have things in moderation, like light traffic more than driv3r though, with a film director and some of those effects. Or use all those effects and cut the idea of film director and lots of traffic out.

It would require a lot of experimentation from the developers, but is well worth the time which you'll be able to see the realism in their next title.

No i wouldn't have thought so. It would be good though. i'm sure the driving AI has some other kind of tech though.

As for madness. Both of these things are currently in a PS3 game. due for release late this year or early next year i think. Star Wars: Force Unleashed. If you go to the website where i stole this info from you can watch videos of this stuff in action.

I would think the PS3 could handle such techniques what with its advanced Blu-Ray technology and superior CPU..

It's not that fact of the blu ray disc that couldn't handle this stuff. In the beggining the PS3 will be able to handle all of this, but in a year or two when these become readily available to anyone it will start to test the PS3's capabilities because at the machine will be competing with even more superior and powerful grappics, game engines and buy that time an even more advanced form of DMM and Euphoria so... we'll see.

Yeah, back when the ps2 was released all the games released on it looked pretty crap and they all of a sudden become more and more advanced. As game developers learn more about them and are able to produce more powerful engines.

They weren't all bad though. Ratchet and clank and jak and Daxter looked good, but that was probably because of the style of graphics they chose to use.

yeah, Need For Speed also used that style.
But they used it for too many games and it just got boring so with with pro-street I think they changed the graphics engine a fair bit.

Makes you wonder how there goin to program a game or at least the AI in the game if it thinks for its self. If they do act "on the fly" to situations like humans then there would be no need to code in what people do if a gun is fired, running out the way of a deranged driver, what to do if a bomb goes off etc. All these things are normally predetermined & give games that "its a game" feeling, all too predictable. Every person you pull a gun out at runs screaming in the same fashion. I think in reality at least someone would try & take it off you or hit you, have a go heroes lol.

DMM sounds like the future of gaming, I think this will advance game play a hell of a lot. Make for an interesting Metal Gear Solid.

I've never played Metal Gear Solid, but to an extent it is just a bunch of exploding things right? But there will be those people who think this is cool and will destroy the entire environment and the machine will have a hard time coping with the huge and rapidly changing environment wouldn't it?

Metal Gear Solid is based around the art of espionage, sneaking about without been seen is the best way to win. So not really many explosions. I was thinking more along the lines of realistic environments, long tall swaying grass, realistic woods etc the sort of environment faced by real life special ops. The game has always pushed graphics to the limits and I believe DMM would give it a great edge. But to be honest blowing things up in a DMM game would be awesome lol :D

So it's like assassins creed... sort of?
Metal Gear Solid doesn't sound like the name lends itself to a stealth game though, i would have thought something more along the lines of Silent Witness or something to that effect.(I'm not sure if i just made up that name or have heard it before somewhere else)
But i think DMM would be the best thing for almost all games coming out soon. I on;y wish they could somehow stick it into GT5 at this late stage and still have it to us next year.

It sounds cool, but it also sounds like it'll take a lot of power. And also, when you're crashing through a wooden fence at 100mph, I'm not looking for extremely realistic accuracy on the fracture points.

How about make stuff break more realistically on foot, where the computer isn't trying as hard to draw up stuff in the distance. It is annoying when shooting a gun at a wall, a bullet hole appears 3 inches to the left, not something I would notice while driving though.

My main priority would be make the car damage as awesome as possible, like wrapping cars around trees, or driving a car in one side and out the other of a semi trailer. I'd also like cars to tear apart when rolling, much like you'd see in a race. Bring on the metal carnage, either by vehicle or weapon.

I don't think they would put this in a game if the system wasn't capable of operating it so, you can be fairly certain these should run pretty well for the time being... On PS3 and PC that is, with all thier superior proccessing power and stuff like that.

The PC is achually annoying for game developers to work with, particular for gamers as well.

We have to remember that when playing a ps3 game the console doesn't have to run other processes (applications) in the background.

When playing on a pc you'll notice that there are usually 40 different processes running at once, using up all that cpu so the game is unable to use it.

When PC's get significantly faster than the consoles that's usually when pc are so much better. The new Quad Core releases will sure be enough to beat any console on the market at the moment but they are fairly hefty pc's.

and the bonus with pc games is developers can give them really high quality, you may not be able to utilize it for 4 years when the hardware becomes available but when it does it's amazing going back and playing the game again.

But in four years wont the modern games be even more amazing while still utilizing the tech that is modern at that particular time and so they will be more amazing than the older one that you imply may exist.
I don't think that made sense but thats the best i can word it.

Well all I can say is games like Doom 3 and I think Half-Life 2 did this.
On the latest computers you can turn them up to full and they can run properly now but the games where released ages ago.

and you saying that the the second game will look the same as the first game with a good pc. Yeah that's true but then with the second game they can do the same thing and go on from there.

Or, maybe to make more money they could re-release the game with higher quality content.

This is getting confusing now.

But i like the idea of a re-release with better quality and even extra missions... just a little something to extend it's life a bit. Maybe add in more cars and guns aswell.

I like the crude-ness of some games. Keeping it simple sometimes makes a game far better to play than complicating things. But as far as graphics go it wont be long before they are photo realistic. One company is already working on a VR (Virtual Reality) system. Imagine crashing a car while playing in that, hope they give them airbags lol.

Is that a private gaming company or a big corporation that will sell the rights to use it to the game developers?

Cause i really want it!
