Modding discussion for Driver: Parallel Lines.

I have recently have been wanting to get into the driver modding scene, and not many people are interested in modding driver games, but I have been wanting to figure out how I can export, edit, replace textures and animations. Really all I want to do is to edit TK's textures in game, and cutscenes, but I think the cutscenes are pre-made video clips, and for animations, I want to replace TK's gun stance with his regular stance, and walk with regular walk and so on. Can some one please tell me how I can get started? I am new here by the way.

Welcome!

As for animations, I think that you can't change it, but you can change the textures with a tool somewhere in the site.

You can edit textures with this tool
http://www.downloads.drivermadness.net/ ... S-1.04.zip

You can change the cutscenes with this tool
http://www.downloads.drivermadness.net/ ... DTools.exe

You can import and export music with these tools
http://www.downloads.drivermadness.net/ ... wav2xa.zip
http://www.downloads.drivermadness.net/ ... xa2wav.zip

Using these tools isn't properly documented. There are no proper tutorials anywhere at the moment. I was going to create some but I got to busy with other stuff.

But be sure to go around a lot of the topics in this category, there is looks of discussion about some of these tools.

Also check out the driv3r modding section, the tools are very similar to use.

Wow thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I just have one question though about the cutscenes, you can actually go and edit textures in them? I was also wondering about replacing weapons like from 78 to 06, because I think it would be cool to have back that good old revolver. Also about importing and exporting music, I might just replace some of my less favorite songs with ones that I like. I have GOT to replace one with Life on Mars by David Bowie. Man that is going to be awesome. Now I just need to find Driver PL for the pc... Thanks for the help Madness. :)

You cannot edit the textures in the cutscenes, since there pre-rendered.
Same applies to buying Wall-E from the video store, you cannot modify Wall-E's textures because the animation is already rendered.

But you can change the textures for objects, buildings, vehicles and most of the characters that are rendered in real time from your computer as your playing the game.

A FMV (cutscene) in driver is like a video you play in mediaplayer. So you can change that video but you cannot change the way an object appears in that video.

You can change their textures, but you cannot change the actual model.
When it comes to bringing back weapons from *78 and moving them to *06 this might be possible. But I'm not quite sure anymore. But it isn't as easy as swapping some files around because all the objects are stored in massive files which none of us can open.
Life on Mars by David Bowie
Yeah, a great song for the 70s.

Now all I have do to is try and find Driver PL for the pc.. Not sure how long until though. The main thing I want to do first is edit the 2006 tk texture, and take off the gun holster on his shirt, I have always hated that thing, and I think it would look better without it. Are the textures in a archive or are they just in a seperate folder in .bmp or .png or something?

textures are in an archive and unfortunately we don't have the greatest tool available to do this.

But you can use this:
http://www.downloads.drivermadness.net/ ... S-1.04.zip

It rips all the textures from the game and stores them as .dds textures.
Once you've modified the .dds texture you can import it too.
