What year was Driv3r set?
I just assumed it was set in 2004 but read somewhere it was set in the 70's, so what year was it set in?

I think that it's set in '04 as well, due to Tanner's mobile phone and the bikes. However, there's a problem. If Driv3r is set in '04, when was Driver 1 & 2 set?

I thought they were set in the 70's, but wouldn't that make Tanner 50 or 60 in this game?

When the developers thought of the plot and storyline, I don't think they thought about the year it was set.

The first thing that always pops into my mind is the Nokia 3200!
Which was released, "January 2004" for a whooping "AU$579".
And was a part of the Nokia Expression (youth) series obviously targeting yesterdays youth and I'm sure a majority of those playing driv3r were between 14 - 24 so I figure it was good marketing for Nokia.

But we cannot let marketing get in the way of the year it was set in.
Hell, it could have been set in early 90s, Nokia isn't going to put the Nokia 2110 there.

Then there won't reach the target audience of DRIV3R. Maybe there grandparents. But you could only buy these phones second-hand and Nokia doesn't want that.

So they put the Nokia 3200 there
Honestly, I figured they never planned the year the game was set.
It seems like a big collarge of different times.

i think that the DRIVER was created in 1999, DRIVER 2 in 2000 or 2001 and DRIV3R in 2004

I thought the Nokia was released in 2003, I remember my sister had that one.

Driver 1: 70's. Boxy Cars, Funk Music, Afros... Definitely 70's.

Driv3r took place in 2003. You can tell by the opening cutscene with his cell phone.

I don't remember the opening cutscene, but, cell phones go back all the way to the 80's. Cell phones mean nothing.

I thought cell phones in the 80s were humongous ones. The one in the game looked very recent.

In 80's, there were no Nokia 3200 mobile/cell phones. So, it wouldn't make sense if the game takes place in the 80's with '04 mobile phone.

Yea exactly. The cars in Driv3r are boxy, coz the developpers didn't know how to make round shapes
And actually, almost everything in the game is boxy

It was based in that one year.
