I thought there was potential to mod the AI cop cars in driver. I decided to give it a go so using the epic image editing tools that are paint and paint.net. I made 2 seperate textures for the cop cars in Miami and New York.

This consisted of going through the palettes of civvy cars and changing some textures about. I then researched what the police livery looked like in the respective cities in the 70s and made a few adjustments. Refer to the images below. (Yes i know the miami one looks abit ****ed up)

I'll try and do one for SF tommorow, LA doesn't need any changes. When I finish I may release all the textures for you to download. It will be interesting to see if anyone else trys this as it doesn't take long to do!

I like the New York one! Always wanted a light blue cop car in Driver. Feels more realistic! Can't wait for a release!

I really appreciate the positive feedback guys, especially since this is my first time texturing since the whole yellow and black buick thing! Here's some more images. I made some adjustments to the sf cop car and have finalised the Miami cop car by adding stripes and making the badge decal smaller, as well as darkening the colour a tad. I'll see what I can do (if anything) with the LA car and then i'll release the textures as a pack tommorow.

I'll get the textures up as soon as I make a photobucket account, seems like I can't add attachments anymore

Yeah if you read the new uploading rules, CarLuver69 specified that DM will not have the attatchment option anymore due to the recent crash.

Though I can't wait to see the textures! :specialdriver:

Seriously Chris? It's hard for you to right-click an image and "Save As" ? That's not a very hard thing to do. And yes, these textures are simply amazing.

Okay, so the first texture is for the AI cop cars in Miami. I based this on the 1978 police livery of the City of Miami Police Department.

This first one replaces texture 29.

This second one replaces texture 65

It should look like this

This second group is for the AI cop cars in San Francisco. This pretty much speaks for itself, I looked at the SF cop cars in the 70s and tried to emulate what they looked like.

This first texture replaces texture 26

This second one replaces texture 61

This third texture replaces texture 62

After you've replaced the textures, the cop cars in SF should look like this:

Here's the NYPD Car for New York. This is probably the most useful texture in this collection I suppose. It makes the New York level feel like New York at last!

This first texture replaces texture 56

This second texture replaces texture 59

After you've replaced your textures you should get something like this:

Well there you are, feedback is welcome. I didn't include a texture for the LA cop car because nothing really needed changed. Have fun! :)

Very nice. But why have you prefer to use the red lightbar instead the properly looking blue and red? In fact the colors cannot be changed yet, so no luck in having red & red pattern :/

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I prefered the red on red lightbar to be honest RF, if you want to keep the blue/red one just select every cop car texture apart from the lights when importing, it's that simple.

As for the faces, as CarLuver said they're peds faces.

If anyone has any suggestions for improvements, feel free to discuss them here. I'm currently extracting textures from the PS1 version so I may post some variations in this thread at a later stage. Cheers

Okay, I thought I would add to this. I'm going through all the seasons of Miami Vice (again) and thought I would make a texture based on the 80s Metro Dade cop car. Here it is:

Image

The above is texture 29

Image

The above is texture 65

It should look like this:

Who knows, I might be bored enough to make some form of 'driver 80s version' mod.

YEAH!! 80s cars :D I sometimes play Driver while listening to 80s music and Miami always has that 80s feeling and stuff in the game so I love it. Your mods rock!
Tho, I tried to install the NYPD blue textures and they looked all grayish in my game. Do I have to do something with palettes and stuff? I just saved your textures as BMP 24 bits and imported them with the texture editor :/

man these are great ones
i should use some of them in my new gameplay series called "Miami Knight Riders"
but which i choose between the beta cop car for Miami and the new one for the same city?? ;)
and another thing
is it normal that damage textures of traffic cars (and some undamaged too) gets screwed up?? :O

Thanks for your feedback mate. Haha so do I, i'm stuck in the 80s to be honest. I saved the images using the same palette as the cop car. As for getting to the cop car palette, you double click on the texture image in DTE and then use the arrows to switch palettes until the cop car textures appear properly, then import. They were saved as 8 bit so dont worry about colour loss or anything. If you have any more problems i'll be happy to help.

I'll be doing some more like Highway Patrol ones and stuff so keep an eye out ;)

Miami Knight Riders? Whats that all about?

No that isn't normal. You're probably not importing them right. I had those problems at the start too but refer to my post above and that should help..you'll probably need to reinstall driver before you import these textures so the traffic cars look normal again though!
