Hello all :)
Thanks for those great modding tools!

Well here is my first model, texture is not finished yet, but i'm happy i could import it :D

the original...

Image

current version ingame:

Image

As you can see, there is strange reflection.

Here is the object in blender (less than 260 triangles) :

It seems that turning the edges can fix de problem. So i guess it is related to triangles, but i don't really understand the logical behind that. I just turn them randomly.

Image

So if someone as an idea how it work, let me know :) It would be soooo great if we have a nice smooth sky reflection warping all around the model!

It`s very nice model! I like it :P

About the reflections problem; I`m not sure, but seems like it still remains here :?

Did you tried last version of the tools, btw?

Holy ^@&* that is AWESOME!!!! My desktop PC freezes too much (I need to get rid of some programs) so I will check into that.

The reflection problem is one of the problems that goes along with the currently very buggy model importer. Just pause the game (or go to the main menu) and adjust your graphic options so that Car Reflections are off if it bugs you that much. We were very close to getting this stuff all worked out and a new version of the importer was right around the corner, but both of our modders disappeared and haven't been seen for awhile now. We're hoping they show up soon!

Very nice model btw.

Thanks all for kind coments, it encourages me to continue :)

Yes TheOldGamer, i checked it is the last version of the model tools.

I found this custom model [Miami] Pontiac Trans Am (BETA) on the forum...and the reflection nearly work, besqide it is made with model tools, so there must be a trick i have to find!

Actually that's just luck. In the old exe it states which individual polygons should be shiny for each car. The vertex fix patch fixes this, but there is no real model importer yet. (I should make one)

hello all, here is a progress of the car. Not yet ingame. It is just hi poly to bake in the texture...

Image

Ok someone972, i guess i have to desactivate the reflexion texture, or replace it with a black image... :? .

Unless you make some miracle...

You can simply turn off reflections by going into your graphic options, and until we get new modding tools, your 2CV won't work in game (it's too high poly)

Dr. Doom :

I think a black texture is a more definitive way :)

Yes i know it is too high poly, i will just use it to bake (render) texture on a low poly model... I ll show you !

...andthe grey shades are what i m going to "extract" from the high poly model...

Image

next step is the low poly (<260 vertex)...but now i go to bed

thank you Clutch :)

Here is the progress for today. I worked on texture. I want to simplify it because there is a lot of artifacts that are not natural for the eye...

feel free to criticize by the way.

It looks good imo. I see that you put a lot of work into the texture image (that's cool)

It looks VERY good. Baking textures on hipoly is brilliant way to make good textures. I don't do that because I'm too lazy :)
But, why there are TWO fuel tanks? You can delete one and use free vertexes better way.

thank you submaniac :)

Clutch: nice! you've got an eye for detail ! yes i will delete one and it remain few vertex for other features.

That`s awesome model! I`ve been looking for something like it from long time. Seriously!

Can you give the possibility to send me the model so I`ll convert it to Midtown Madness 2 (the low-poly model)? PM me if you want.

Ah, I reminded myself...

Additional thumb-up from me for Blender.
Somebody can say "3dsm is better" but personally i feel lonely as Blender-er. :(

Reckless Driver: ok i ll PM youy soon ( I would like to make cars for MM also)

Clutch: i m opinion, Blender is simply better than comercial programs. Others ones has advantages but blender has many (appart from being free).

TA1LGATER: do you make such a mod?

I progressed on the texture.

Image

Now, i will export it with someone modeltools and drive it cautiously in miami.. wish me good luck, I hope i won't do some silly and provocate the cops

I imported the mesh in driver.

Image

Now i am wondering about the "damaged" mesh UV coordinates.

What is the logical behind damage textures?

Hey man, that`s awesome. Damage textures are rather needed; they give simply nice effect to the car, along the damage model and damage wheels. But, if you don`t wanna make damage, don`t do it

I wish we could make damage textures and damaged bodies, but someone972 and SOAP still haven't gotten to work on the new model importer, which is really starting to annoy me.

Dr. Doom if only i knew how to code:( but anyway it is cool that we can modify models!

here is a video made with the 2cv.

Image

as you can see on this video, i am not a very good driver. So i recruit any good pilot that can make a great video with slalom and a lot of cops car crash without taking damages...
