How do i go about extracting a car?

Hi there.

I would like to know how to extract a car from the driver files? I have the demo, I can at least open the files to see them?

From I've gathered you need Milkshape and 3Ds max, older version i suppose would do.

I'm sort of all over the place on how to do the basics.

From what I've seen so far, a number of people here have managed to re-texture existing vehicles from the game, and possibly import their own low poly model... :?

Please, look at here, to download Driver Texture Editor and SOAP`s excellent import/export tools, here to download Milkshape 3D, and is optional to look at mine Model Extraction Guide, at were you can learn some hints at extracting another car models, not only the default Miami`s ones. So far by, there`s no tutorial about making these steps, but as was writing one for NFS4, I may post it here, if anyone is interested.

Hope this answers your question! :)

Hi

I downloaded milkshape earlier, I now have the import/export tool. I am mainly interested in that, than in applying textures for the moment.

To add, you need a registration code for Milkshape. I suppose i can use the 30 day trial.

If you add any mesh to the model buick in the demo i believe it would show up in the game?

Does anyone here know is it possible to turn of the police car that chases you in the Demo? That may be a bit far off...

There some roads you can travel around.

For the demo, you must go to Scripts --> Missions --> Mission?.dms

Keep editing each .DMS file until you find the one Driver loads when you play, and change "Cops_on" to "Cops_off"

Done!

How do I open these files, use notepad?

As for editing the mesh or adding to a car, do you just open the default car file and edit it and then resave it?

Oh god, no.

Look, the mission file, can be opened with notepad, and like Dr.Doom said, you can edit them.

And, as for the car editing, you will more special programs to use. And if you want an register keys for Milkshape 3D, google them!

Look at my second post.

And if you want, I`ll create a tutorial at how to do it, ok?

I see, so you need to export as .3ds and then import into Zmod to modify them. Once done, I suppose you just resave it, make backup of the file.

If you add textures, you just add a new texture via the texture editor?

I edited the three scripts, and the police are still there.

Yes. You`ll need to replace the texture, on the car you modified, e.g, if you modified the Buick, and it uses texture 13 for example, so edit the texture, edit the car, then export it into the game`s files, and you`re ready.

Also, Demo`s miami .lev contains the same content as the full game`s file, so good luck at editing it.

PS
For the police, it`s the default value:
SetMaximumCops 4
Cops_on

Set it as
SetMaximumCops 0
Cops_off

...and it could be it.

But the demo only has part of Miami, no?

What about the timer, you have the chase on, that's the only game with the demo.

Well, if you add to the mesh, and then add a texture how does that work about getting it in?

Erm... now it`s more harder to explain the both questions..

I should be getting on to that tutorial now, so check the Modifying section later.

Right, Okay. Just to add the police are still there.

I suppose modifying buildings is still a long shot for the moment.

We even didn`t get a full control at making cars, but you`re talking about city modifying... erm.. :|

Well, yes. I was just asking. I understand the situation is that car modding is still a work in progress.

As for the police still on in the demo, I'm notsure how else would you turn it off..

Has anyone actually done this and worked, I would of thought so since you know that information?

Buildings actually import fine from what I've seen. Cars are pretty much done except for the cosmetics like the light and wheel positions (I need to make a patch to fix that, very easy). Damage works, shinyness works, replacing the wheels with different models works. It's just that the tools aren't released for modifying them fully yet. The only major thing that I have left to do as far as car modeling goes (at least for now) is to figure out how to properly add new textures. Of course if you're using the demo exe a lot of that stuff isn't available.

Sort of off topic: I've also been working on some super secret stuff 8) . But that has stopped for a bit while I work on my DIY Guitar Hero guitar.
