hundreds of game would use the extension .lev
It doesn't mean the contents of the file is the same.
So if there was a tool for Worms World Party that allowed you to modify the contents that file will most likely not work with Driver.
Developers can choose what extensions to use and it seems most logical to use a .lev extension for a level in a game.
The way these level files are constructed could be competently different.
They could have used the extension .doc of course you couldn't modify the level using Microsoft word.
You probably already knew this therefor I'm not directing it at you.
I wanted to make a point that searching for a popular extensions on the internet is almost useless.
If someone had made a tool, the tools developer would most likely be apart of a driver community such as this one or Driver-Dimension, Driver-Welten.
Quite some time ago, I spent days searching for all the extension file-types. I found someone who developed a tool for exporting .XA files from driv3r. I started talking with them about supporting driver: parallel lines and developing a importer and that happened fairly quickly. So it's still useful to search around there are some developers apart of modding communities in general which know a lot of information about modifying games in general.
But when it comes to Driver 3, it's always a been there done that kind of thing. Nothing much has ever happened in the modding community and I don't think anything will happen in the future of modding Driver, Driver 3 as these titles aren't popular enough on PC at the moment, perhaps when they were released.
Unfortunately my time is much more restricted and I no longer have the time to go around any-form of game and start trying to mod them because it can become very time consuming.
The most time consuming think I ever stared was the massive texture mod for Driver: Parallel Lines which never got anywhere. I think this is because we need a team of ten developers and a couple of months to develop such a mod since there are so many textures in Driver: Parallel Lines.
and to confirm, .map is just a .bmp file.
So you can open it up in mspaint, photoshop or any other image program.
