I'm looking forward to see how you guys change these :) .

A word about copyright: I am posting these assuming it is okay. You all own driver so I wouldn't consider it piracy at all. Someone who doesn't own driver shouldn't really be using these (I don't see why they would want to, there are better car textures). Modding communities always pop up with games, and they are never pentalized.

i been doing this since you posted them, and my god it is ****ing time consuming! Its so hard to do this.

They worked hard on this game with the textures, im impressed...

BTW can you get the traffic textures out? If so, can I get the convertible from miami? its called CIVCAR4

I think I will just use Paint.net to change the colors for now, most other things are too time consuming.

As for the traffic textures if you changed it you'd change every traffic car. The Civ cars only use one image for all of them, which is paletted. By using a palette they can change the color just by changing the palette. If you really wanted it I could get it, however it is more difficult to mod.

Best I could do. I will do the others later, this was hard enough...

This is for Miami, please save as Miami_02.lev :)

Here is a rough draft I just made -

Ya, it will. The only problem right now with that is that they are paletted and I don't know where it states which palette to use yet.

Hopefully. I imagine that those will be harder to do, but I'll start with a simple model and go from there.

I'm getting closer to having everything working, once I do I can start on the GUI. I have found the file that contains which image uses which palettes, however the palattes aren't in the order that they appear in the file, so I have to figure that out.

EDIT: I may be able to add a 'damage texture' functionality. This would make it so that if you made a clean texture for a car the program would be able to damage it for you. I'm not sure if it will work the way I expect though, since I haven't tried it yet.

someone, do you mean by generating the correct places to place the textures? I wouldn't really bother with that, but u can try it anyways.

Wow! :D
I cannot believe I missed this post; I've been busy lately, but anything to do with modding usually grabs my attention quickly.

I haven't read through the entire post yet. But I'm amazed with some of the things you have achieved. I remember archiving some similar things with driv3r which I unfortunately haven't properly documented but while cleaning up my computers hard drive I'll randomly upload tones of videos showing tones of weird things. But enough of driv3r.

I've been following the modding scene very well up until early 2008 and have been fascinated about the things you can do with games. I've done a lot of things with driver but I never got anywhere near modifying textures and I congratulate you for your amazing work.

I cannot believe programmers managed to make tones of mission editors and none of them managed to develop a texture mod application. Just as I thought the Driver modding scene died it is back to it's full glory.
Slick wrote:What im hoping is that oneday i mean ONEDAY lol a complete city editor will become available it must be possible i mean editors like this are available for other games why not driver, you know? i feel that gradually we are onto something i mean lets go back a year from now NO ONE at all was able to look at textures or even change simple object names so we are all gradually getting there u know? lol
Just as driver celebrates it's 10 year an amazing tool is developed. One day, maybe one-day with the dedication of programmers and modifiers this might be possible.

But I realize looking for models can be a painful job, more than textures. But hopefully someone can manage to accomplish this.

I stayed away from the ambitious dpl: texture massive texture modification due to time limitations but it would be amazing to see a high quality texture restoration project. Just like a team did with Duke Nukem 3D that mod was pretty amazing modernizing such an old game.

But nothing would beat modeling a high-poly vehicle and putting it in Driver. Or just for laughs a massive toilet driving around the streets of Miami.

I'm only on the fourth page at the moment.
I'll go through and read the rest another day.
I must say it's quite the page-turner, I cannot wait to see what happens next.
Also, signup @ driverdatabase.110mb.com in case Driver Madness does indeed go down as madness has said.
With a community of this size, I'd never let driver madness go down any longer than a couple of days which should be enough time to move to another server and upgrade it.

On a slight unrelated to this topic but related to what I was just saying.
Since the DriverWiki isn't as popular as I had hoped I've decided to no longer work on it - more info on that here.

You've impressed the administrator, someone! Good job, lol.

EDIT: This is completely random, but I tried to import Driver 2's Chicago into Driver and it said it was missing a bunch of stuff. Wasn't expecting it to work anyways.

Ya, I gave him the version I'm currently using. It's not in a state ready for public release yet, but it's getting closer (currently it barely has any user interface and is full of issues). The only problem left before developement takes off is the palette order. The order driver has them is different from the order they are in the file. Ex:
Code: Select all
# in driver: 0 1 2 3 4
spot in file: 0 1 15 12 2
I tried a test of a damager and it works decently. It takes the difference between a clean texture and a damaged texture and applys those differences to another clean texture. Once I get a chance I'll upload some pics. This function will be included in the final program since it only took me 5 minutes to whip up.

The poster is made out of several textures that is found in every .LEV file. I had to print screen, select, copy, paste, and do over and over until its in the condition it is now.

those early "beta" textures are the original unmodified actual real cars. the ford galaxy, before the idea of leaving it a pontiac gto, there was too much of a resemblance, so they changed it quite a bit. dodge ram and buick skylark, the police texture is the "distant" model from the psx. if you look closely on the playstation driver, the cars are almost a cube from far, thats its textures, they were also the beta textures.
Id love to see the rest of the game cars, and the ps1 dodge ram. anyone remember that? it was the same as the ps1 LA civ pickup, just beat to hell and rusty
