Discussion for DRIV3R (2004)

This was a topic at the Atari forums that never seemed to conjure up an answer. If I’m missing the info on how to do this here or at Ubisoft or in the Atari archives, and someone knows where, would you be kind enough to direct me to that thread?

I mean is this about how much memory or HD space you have on your rig, or some setting within the game or what? At Atari it says, “The game's replay mode' allows you to replay all of the action you have just experienced.” I see that in ppl’s videos, but not when I’m jamming the game. Anyway, I’d like to know how you make it so you can record a longer replay than I have been seeing with the game the way it comes out of the box. Thanks, man.

I'm not 100% sure what your trying to say however I think I can understand it.

I believe it is not possible to improve the games replay length.

If I got it wrong maybe so I can further understand to help you if you could give some more information with what your trying to do.

Which console do you own driv3r on? (pc, xbox, ps2)
are you trying to make the replay mode have a longer time limit, so the replay just doesn't cut the rest of your game play out?

Hey, Boss. Thanks for the reply. Yah, I know I write a pretty vague post for someone who uses as many words as I usually do. Sorry. I try, but just can’t seem to make a clear point in a well organized way most of the time.

But, yah, that’s it, then. I guess it could be just a matter of perception on my part, or misperception. But I keep getting the impression from watching other ppl’s replay videos here and at YouTube that they are getting longer replays than I am. I do some driving in Take a Ride and then go to look at the replay, and find there isn’t much there, just a pretty short clip of what I did at the start of the run. I keep reading other ppl’s posts and consumer reviews online that say the same thing, that they’re seeing some pretty short replays, so I don’t know.

Maybe I’m just imagining things, but I thought it looked like some dudes were recording longer replays than I and the other whingers have been seeing on our rigs.

Which platform, Boss? I play DRIV3R on my newer PC. I thought maybe there was a file somewhere in which a value could be changed or something so that a longer replay could be recorded than is possible with the game in its stock form.

Heck, I don't even know if anyone has managed to write a program to extract DRIV3R files yet. I'm definitely speaking outside of my purview here, so I realize this all sounds ignorant, but man when that Mafia Extractor tool came along, that that opened up Mafia to a huge world of modding that added years to the game's life.

Thanks again for the reply, man.

why you call him boss

Because I'm an apple-polishing toady. What d'ya think I do it for?

It's just a habit I got into at work over the years. Here, Madness is in charge, so I find myself calling the guy boss out of habit. Plus he's the boss of our fictional crew in the One Big Story thread. I don't mind trying to make sure I only call him Madness, if there's a problem. Guess I should just call that one guy 'Sedans' instead of buddy. I just got to liking talking to him in here. He's funny.

Thanks.

BTW, Madnesss, when I typed that I had read before what you and JAY were talking about in the past regarding DRIV3R files, all this business:

So you can see: Most of the files are compressed into archives. Most of the formats used for the compression are unknown to me. We have no tools or programs to open the files and extract them. If we would have such tools we could change most parts of the game: new cars, new music, new sounds, new maps, new missions, and so on.

…so we easily could mod this game. But the first step the extraction of the game files has to be done. And this game is to old and unpopular, so I've no hope that we will have such software.

The extracting of textures works. Now I have a folder full of textures of Miami Day. I also can load them into Photoshop. But I hadn't tested the importing feature yet. But this tool is perhaps the greatest progress in Driv3r Modding! It's the first real and working Extractor of archived game files!

I only mention that in the hope of not appearing too completely lazy, but merely oblivious to what I’ve read. BTW, I was at the Driver Crew website that someone, perhaps cars358, had said was all full of mods for DRIV3R. Didn't see any mod D/L's there, did you? I have been having a lot of trouble with myInternet connection, though, including when I was visiting there. Can't navigate worth crap lately. I hope it's the ISP and not my rig. I'm about due for a reformat of the HD, anyway, I guess.
