Personally the split screen modes in driver 2 and DSF are one of the highlights of the game. I love just have races, smash ups and chases with my mates while playing driver. In the future i believe if driver has a 4 player split screen option (maybe split screen online 2) that sales will boost and more people will play driver just to causally relax and muck around, Driver will gains fans. I would just like to ask you guys about your thoughts of split screen in future drivers and how you found split screen in past drivers.

I've never really played Driver with others in split screen.

The first time I played Driver, it was in my cousins house and we were playing Driver 2. We just took turns doing Take A Ride, thats the way Ive always played them.

Myself and my sister used to play Driv3r like that for hours. Im not sure why she doesn't like any of the other Drivers though lol, just Driv3r

For Driver San Francisco, Ive never played splitscreen. Though it is an important feature, as you said.

the way i used to play with my friends in driv3r was if u crash u die, it passed the controller around fast but i just cant think that if it had split screen that it would have been so much better with friends

I remember playing Split-Screen on Driver 2 with my cousin. We spent countless hours chasing each other, or eventually playing capture the flag, or any other mini game :)
Was a lot of fun. I think it could have been better however: In free roam for example you couldn't visit all of the city. In fact it was a map on it's own, which only included a certain district. But when you played in Takedown, you'd have the full map. That doesn't make sense… Also I know that there was no traffic, but I have the feeling that in a few of the game modes there was — such as Takedown. But I might be wrong.

I don't think I'd use Split-Screen again. It was fun at the time because me and my cousin could play Driver together. But I believe Split-Screen is dead now, since there's online multiplayer. If you want to play with your friends, why would you do yourself this pain to play on a SPLIT screen? Online multiplayer also allows many more players. DSF also kicks out players that start to lag, and doesn't let players in at all if they lag as well. So you never have the lag issue. Although the movements of another one's car are never as precise as they would be on Split-Screen or local play. That's about the only thing that could be better.

If there was a split-screen for 4 players, I don't believe I could play it at all. Your screen would be way too small, I mean it's alright for Mario Kart or something, but in my opinion not for Driver.

So my answer is no, I don't really give importance to Split-Screen, but I give a lot of importance to online multiplayer. The Story of the game you're not going to play it every day, but online multiplayer you can play it every day, with new players, hence new challenges, and you can always test out new stuff. The possibilities here are really endless, and that's why I am still playing it, after over a year, every day :)

I disagree with Coyote in this one, split screen has something that online doesn't have, a visual contact with your friends, i mean when you play you laugh and talk along, for me is way more great that online. Don't know if with skype or something similar you can achieve that feeling not being in the same house. On the other hand as you said, the problem is the limited number of players playing, as for four players there isn't a problem now since the TV screens are way bigger and cheaper than 10 years ago, maybe the problem is processing all that stuff in 4 different players, what could mean less traffic and stuff like that. The best solution for me is bringing some PCs or consoles into a house and make a game reunion, so that you can enjoy playing with way more players online and at the same time have a laugh with your friends.

You mean a LAN party? That's cool as well.

About the TV size: We're use to play on bigger TVs these days, so even if the TVs are bigger, it will still appear small when suddenly you only get to play on ¼ of the whole screen size.

And what's the problem with laughing and talking while playing online? DSF has a built-in microphone function, it's useful and even quite smart: it classes players into groups, depending on who they're playing. That means when you're playing takedown, all cops can talk to each other, but the crook can't hear them, and neither he can talk to them. That's useful because you can plan routes and tricks with your cop friends while the crook has no idea what's going to happen in the coming seconds :D Same thing with team games of course, while you're playing the match you can only talk to people from your team. When the match is finished (after a few minutes usually), and you go into the second round, there's a little break (well as always between rounds) where you can talk to everyone. After the game is finished, before qualify starting again, you can talk to everyone as well, and you have much more time because you also have qualify included.

I think it's a great system and obviously something that wouldn't work when your friends are sitting next to you. Speaking over the microphone with your friends is the same as spending hours on the phone, it can be just as exciting especially when you're having such crazy matches :D

I'll have to take a look into Driver SF PC version since i want to update my PC. Maybe sometime i'll join to play some online with you.

That's one of the disvantages of gaming reunions, some of the other team sneak and hear our tactics and that sucks :D .

I think online multiplayer is better than split screen for obvious reasons, but still think split screen should be an option. I agree that 4 player split screen is to much, as Coyote said, but I think they should keep the 2 player split screen. Me and a mate of mine used to play the Driver 2 split screen, and then we played San Francisco's one too. Of course he went online with SF but it was nice to actually see him rather than just hear him, plus some different modes on the split screen.

Oh, so you don't have it at all?? I assumed you have it on another platform (PS3 or Xbox), that was my question.

Wow that's crazy you're definitely missing out on something

Nope, my old laptop couldn't handle it, even Driv3r at lowest was lagging, it only managed to run Driver, Driver 2 and DPL. So i kept the game all this years and saving for a new PC in order to play it.

True, and you get the box also. Driver: San Francisco is the only Driver for which I have no box because I've bought it digitally. Might just buy it again someday just for the sake of the box (Y)
