Driver - 6.78 million
Driver 2 - 4.73 million
Driv3r - 0.78 million
Driver: Parallel Lines - 0.03 million
Driver '76 - 0.03 million

This may explain why a fifth game in the series is taking so long to be released. The sales have decreased with the time.

Heh.

This doesn't surprise me. A 6 million drop in supposed improvements over a decades' time would delay many things, ya know.

They either have it in the trash and are never going to think about it again... or they are going to make it the most kickass game to ever hit our consoles.

Only time will tell.

I prefer the second option. But we never know, only when Ubisoft announce the new Driver game we will know.

Isn't 0.03 million like 300,000 or 30,000 or something like that, that couldn't be worldwide?

0.03 million is 30,000.

That's horrible.

As-well I prefer the second option. I highly doubt they are going to do it though. I've lost faith in Driver.

It'd be nice, though.

I'm not sure if it's really 30,000 as VGChartz isn't a reliable source when it comes to sales. They give more of a prediction though. Plus the 30,000 are only for the PS2 version.

But hey, I still have some hope that the next Driver will be sick... even though I probably won't play it. :(

 All sales depended on previous versions, and every version just got worse and worse (although, D2 was the best).

I just figured that I used VG Chartz as a source, and they are not a reliable source...

Many internet sources are not reliable, however, those figures sound right.

Driver 3 would have had to have sold more than 30,000 because I have a xbox classics one which means it would have had to sold more than a million.

Sales Chart and little history

As you can see, Driver 1999 was of great sales because it was something new.
Driver 2 was still up in the goodzone, but the missions were not as straightforward, so it wasnt as popular
Driv3r denoted the downhill sales of the series, it went downhill from there, due to so many Grand Theft Auto similarities, but it still is a popular game.
Parallel Lines made it even worse, it was too much like GTA.
San Fran is a different story, its not even out yet, but Im sure it MIGHT make a comeback.
Below is a sales chart, according to money stats by Nikusakken.

As I've said, VGChartz is not a reliable source. They don't work with actual numbers, but estimative. In Ubisoft's website, it says the whole series sold so far 15 million copies, and If you calculate all these sales above, it won't come nowhere close to 15 millions.

To clarify for you gentlemen here. The D1 and D2 sales are "relatively" spot on.

D3 is heavily under tracked. It only includes Xbox sales and is missing the PS2 sales which were of greater number. The 2.5 million shipped source "super slav" posted is legit but that only relates to the initial shipment to retailers worldwide, D3 did reach platinum and greatest hits status so there was a reprint so combined sales could be as high as 3 million, give or take.

DPL is also heavily under tracked, only Japanese PS2 sales are included and that is Driver's worst market for sales hence the 30k. Given the fact that the game had limited marketing and its release resulted in the quick sell off of the brand and developer I would estimate that DPL for sure did not hit 1 million worldwide. More in the lines of 500-750k. No official data on those numbers so once again it MY educated guess.

D76 is under tracked too but that game had a limited release either way so I'd say somewhere under 100k worldwide for sure. It can be downloaded digitally on PSN but its not a big seller.

So:

Driver - approximately 6.5 million
Driver 2 - approximately 5 million
Driv3r - approximately 3 million
Driver Parallel Lines - approximately 600k?
D76/various PC ports/cellphone games/various bundles etc - 100-250k?

Grand total - 15.5 million approximately, take into effect exaggerated data and internal sources made available to Ubisoft and you have the 15 million total link that Nik posted. Either way the series has declined greatly and is need of a serious reboot.
Nikusakken wrote:VGChartz is not a reliable source. They don't work with actual numbers
There Japanese numbers are legit 100% but there Euro numbers are pure estimates. North American numbers are also estimates until the NPD releases its monthly sales, then VGchartz scales it's numbers off that.

DRIV3R A WORLDWIDE SUCCESS
Consolidated revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2004-2005 amounted to
€ 171.6 million on a current exchange-rate basis, or € 175.2 million on a
constant exchange-rate basis.
2.5 million copies have been shipped in US and Europe for PS2 and Xbox. The
title topped the charts with approximately 50% of the units already sold to
gamers after 1 month sales.

As we know Reflections is a very innovative studio, in my opinion probably it will be a whole new concept of the game.

From the concept of Destruction Derby they started innovating.

Driver - Open 3D world
Driver 2 - On foot and carjacking
Driv3r - Weapons, photorealistic environments, realistic damage physics.
Driver PL - Two different eras in one game, car tuning, shooting from car.
Driver SF - Shift, cockpit view.
Driver 6 - :?:
