Between the demo and full version of Driver 2, there seems to be a huge difference in frame rate, but not a huge difference in gameplay. Can someone with knowledge of the inner workings of D2 please explain what would probably be causing the drag, and why?

It's possible there's an unresolved memory leak somewhere in the game, left unfixed due to time constraints. Either that, or the game is "junk rendering", or in other words, rendering things into the game world that the player doesn't see, such as what's behind the player or hidden behind large buildings. Another reason could be that the draw distance is too much for Driver 2's game engine and is putting too much strain on it, causing it to feel overwhelmed and is intentionally limiting what it can do (despite an emulator being capable of running it much faster than a PS1). The last possible reason could be the AI - maybe they didn't finish programming the AI system, so it's running inefficiently and sucking up too much memory from the game engine.
