The Evidence

Basically, what evidence do we actually have that a new Driver game is in development?
Okay, SONY said it was being made in 2006 and there was a BBC report
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7460359.stm that said they were making Driver but then in another report didn't it show that the game they were making was Emergency Heroes.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7460352.stm
I found this that says there isn't going to be a game though:
1) Ubisoft deny the game is in development (
http://www.vg247.com/2008/06/18/reflect ... of-driver/)
2) In the BBC news report, it appears to be Emergency Heroes they are working on.
So what do we have to go on?
Sony? A BBC reporter?
Do you have anything to back this up?

The
CV of this developer. In the Employment and Work Experience field, he mentions a "Driver Next Generation for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360".
And
this other CV, he mentions a Driver [Working Title] in the Expericene field.
More than enough proof that a new Driver is in work...

How did you know where to find those?

I've been searching in Google UK for a few months, trying to find any reference to the new Driver game. And it was the maximum that I could find.

Just been looking at your links, and it appears that these people have removed anything relating to Driver.

Upon further Googling, I found this:
http://www.blogger.com/profile/07447168007550509039
Its a games developer for UR, and it appears he's working on an 'unannounced project', wonder what that is?
I've e-mailed him anyway, as well as a few others I found who currently work for UR.

I've just come across this post:
Ubisoft Reflections is currently hard at work on the next-generation debut for Driver, as well as creating a brand-new franchise.
heres the link:
http://www.develop-online.net/jobs/curr ... eflections
-----------------
So they are obviously working on the next Driver, and they are developing a new franchise
------------------
*EDIT*
Heres some more news:
Ubisoft Reflections games studio in Newcastle, UK seeks Senior Online Engineer
The successful candidate will work within a team of engineers at Ubisoft Entertainment implementing online features for their games that meet the requirements of the project’s Creative Director and Technical Lead. As an experienced engineer this person will be responsible for designing and implementing the technology required for significant online features. These could include networked physics simulation, networked game logic, plus higher-level features like matchmaking, session management, etc. Experience of online communities, e-commerce, downloadable content, etc. would also be beneficial. Requirements are at least 1 game completed on major home consoles or PC in a significant online/network programming position and experience solving online games issues related to latency, bandwidth and synchronization. They also seek an experienced character animator and on-line programmer.
Link:
http://www.interactiveblog.net/?p=457
So as we can see, they want to add online features, and they may be working on DLC in the future for this title!.

Got any response?
And brand new franchise? I'm pretty sure it's not Monster 4x4: Stunt Racer.

I don't know if this has been posted yet (my apologies if it already has) but I was randomly searching sh*t today and I came across this:
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/b ... h-industry
Key quote:
Edmondson added that Ubisoft Reflection's upcoming new Driver game has been eligible for the French tax break, a fact that should allay developers' fears they will need to adhere to certain cultural criteria in order to qualify. "It's a car chase game set in the US and we actually qualify," he said.
So back to the US we go but will it be 1 city like DPL or a combination of multiple cities like previous Driver's?

So it's been added to French tax break? Sounds interesting. I dunno, but the game being set in US bothers me a bit. I seriously don't want to play in New York for the third time (fourth for who played 76).

Yep, it was just better having numerous cities (if a lot of work for the level designers) as it provided an insight into different cultures and contrasted various attitudes to auto-mobiles, but who knows?

I just sent a PM to an Irish developer who work for Ubisoft Reflections if he can give details if Reflections is working on a new Driver and/or a new franchise. I just hope he replies.

I think that the game will be set in Chicago and San Francisco, after that the game should continue in Moscow because the russians bought the stolen cars. In Chinago there is a district called Ukrainian Village and in San Francisco a district called Russian Hill. The russians bought the stolen cars so i think that these districs could be included to continue the story.
I think that Jericho escapes from the hospital and Tanner returns to USA to find information about him searching in Chicago(in Chicago was set the Solomon Caine's gang=now Jericho's gang) and find info about the buyers of the cars(Ukrainian Village and Russian Hill district).

I would like a Russian game, I like the Russians, mainly because western society is so scared of 'em! Also I think of the Bourne Supremacy car chase, anyone?

Yeah, a car chase like that would be really cool.

Every time the police car slams Jason's car I jump, I want some heart jolting moments (though hard to achieve) in the game...
Anyway when they announce the game, If they say Russia is involved I would jump for Joy!

Russia would be cool (especially if it had realistic weather, and snow), but I wouldn't really mind what city it's set in, I'd realy like Dublin, but thats only 'cos I'm Irish.
If there were 3 cities, my choices would be:
-Moscow (continuing from the DRIV3R story)
-Las Vegas (would love to see Vegas in Driver, would have a lot you could base a story on too)
-London (would be cool to see London, would be annoying switching what side of the road you drive on though, either London or a really poor city, like Istanbul was, maybe somewhere in Africa, and you could have the story about diamonds or something, and then add Belgium too)

If the developers don't include Moscow in Driver 4/5 i'll kill them, we need a russian city to continue the story of Driv3r

You like russians because you are a russian? (or what?)

Well if it has realistic weather in Dublin, it would be easy, always raining! Dublin is cool though, I was there in 2006 and Although it pee'd down I had a great time, and no, I didn't just stay in the Guinness factory all trip!

I say pick Newcastle, we are pretty skint! But yea, a poor city would make a nice contrast, My vote is for Moscow, Johannesburg and Budapest...
max.thunder wrote:You like russians because you are a russian? (or what?)
Heck no, I'm not Russian but I have a good Russian and a good Ukrainian friend and I get a good vibes from both of them. They give me the impression that an Eastern Bloc city would be ideal for the chaotic, dark and gritty world of Driver...

Hi,
First let me say I'm glad you like our games, it's always good to hear from you guys.
Second, I'm afraid I'm not able to talk about the games we're working on. My suggestion would be to write to Ubisoft directly (maybe someone from this page?). Hopefully someone there will be able to give you some information.
Cheers,
Drea
I pretty much expected to this, but it's nice to see that at least one developer replied.
