Discussion for Driver: San Francisco (2011)

In June 2008, the BBC conducted reports on the computer game industry, among those reports were in-game, and development footage of the next Driver game.
I think that Driver San Francisco wasn't being in development so many years that we think, in my opinion after Driver Parallel Lines, Gareth Edmondson was developing a new Driver(different) but later came his brother Martin and wanted to create a whole new game,so i think that the next gen Driver could look better.

There are proofs in the video that confirm that the Driver game developed under the managment of Gareth Edmondson was different than his brother game called Driver San Francisco.

The video was released in June 2008, so that mean that Gareth's team were developing a new game since 2006 or 2007 (after Driver Parallel Lines). So my opinion is that later came Martin and wanted to create a new whole version of Driver, cancelling the Gareth's idea, so i think that Driver SF was only 2 years in development.

Proofs in the video:

The cars aren't licensed, also the cars are able to open their doors and the hood, so that mean that Gareth's Driver could be like the previous games, like Driver 2, Driv3r and Driver PL, it probably would be a game with on foot stuff.

Martin himself said that they were working on a new Driver before they were bought by Ubisoft (more precisely, they were working on the engine). That probably means Martin returned to Reflections after Parallel Lines, but before the release of '76.

Just because they open the doors doesn't mean that there's on foot. Like Sedans and Chris said, it can be damage. But don't forget about parked cars that pedestrians can get in/out.

Yeah, but in Driver San Francisco there's no need to open the doors because of the shift feature, also the pedestrians in the game look dumb, like the peds of Driver 1 and Driver 2 (hope that in Driver SF they will not escape through the walls)

In the early gameplay i didn't see parked cars, only driving cars with drivers in.

If you mean damage that look a little bit strange, including such a big damage in licensed cars (surely that they have paid a lot of money to the brands if they wanted to put this type of damage)

Hope that they will improve the game or i will contract an criminal to kidnap the guy who came with the stupid idea of Shift.

I hate UBI$OFT (also hate the DRM or called internet connection required)

+1

Also, I wish they used PSL`s 3D engine of Test Drive 2002 instead of making sh*t.

*PSL = Pitbull Syndicate Limited

So you're going to kidnap Martin? Because it was all his idea.

Also, you guys know that it's not obligated to use Shift, right? You can beat the game without Shifting.

They said you could beat DPL without doing any shooting. They're BSing

Code: Select all
Driver: Parallel Lines is the fourth entry in the series and marks a return to the more classic gameplay features that were mostly abandoned in DRIV3R. Almost all of the action takes place from behind the wheel. The sections where one can go on foot and battle cops with the fist and other weapons are entirely optional. Basically, a skilled player can complete the whole game without getting out of their vehicle, unless they need to jack up another car when their previous vehicle has received too much damage.
You can find this description on many websites. This description is not true because there are missions (such as the last one) where you have to go in a building and shoot.

I've completed the last mission in a motorcycle (entering in the Corrigan's safehouse). But other missions are impossible to complete without shooting, like the Corrigan's limo mission and Corrigan's office (Police Dept.)

If it's necessary i'll do that, man Ubisoft killed one of the best games ever created. Now i'm happier that they delayed more the game, if they not improve it and keep the shift with the DRM, i probably will not buy the game. I know that to sell they need an innovative idea, but Shift makes the game totally unrealistic compared to previous Driver games.
Recently in one survey mostly people think bad about DRM, mostly say that they will not buy the game if it contains that DRM stuff. If they will not change some stuff in the game i hope that the game will not sell well, and after that Gareth could make an real Driver to follow up Driv3r storyline.
Now i became addicted to Driver 2, awesome game, love the chases. That's we need in the next Driver, that feel of driving a car and the chases, with an amazing storyline.

It's not like Driver have been a prime example in realism. Sure, it's more realistic than, let's say GTA, but it still an arcade game after all. With Shift, it doesn't make too much difference.

Do you really think that with or without DRM it'll make any difference to Ubisoft. Most of their sales comes from the consoles, not PC. They don't give a f**k about PC gamers. Unless if they have some epiphany and realize that they could improve their sales if the remove this DRM and make discounts on Steam.

I'm glad they forgot about Driv3r's storyline in this game a bit. Seriously, that was one of the worse storyline that I ever seen in a game. Don't forget about the mediocre voice acting and the lifeless characters (it's not like Driver ever had a great storyline to begin with).

personally Id love an on foot portion in driver SF, even if it meant only being able to switch cars. I mean, who ever said that getting out the car meant there HAD to have guns...??

THINK for a sec about what you lose with no on foot aspect. On foot, you can (OR, should I say, SHOULD BE ABLE TO) inspect vehicles better, access smaller places or alleys that could have vehicles there, interact with other people (<-- should be included) etc. etc.

On foot with no shooting would be awesome....!!

I don't think it would work. Specially because the comparisons with GTA would rise again, and we all know too well this story. Personally, if they'd ever add on foot, I'd prefer it's slightly similar to Assassin's Creed (without the parkour though) and the guns would be limited to normal cop guns (pistols, perhaps a sub machine gun and something else), but there would not be the freedom to cause havoc. If the player ever tried that, they'd be punished.

I think it wudd dramatically increase the appeal of the game, aswell as the overall enjoyment.

Plus IF there is ANY online Free Roam, well, with the graphics and physics engine, the abillity to get out your car would make the game so much fun. me and my potnas used to make cop videos on GTA, and we wouldnt use guns (we draw them if / when needed) but if we did use guns, we did a shootout where erryone missed on purpose to mkae it look better. it was fun. If we could do that wit the better graphics and nicer cars of driver, then yes id like a copy plz.

+1 I totally did the same with my friend. I preferred to be the cop, and we would chase all around the city like if we were in Driver 1.
