Understanding 2011 Alpha

In this topic we will be discussing how the old engine works. We will need to dig into it and figure out what everything does, as my knowledge is now very limited due to it being so long since I worked on it.

Allow me to start.

One thing I do vividly remember is that there is a huge black box surrounding the player off screen. The purpose of it was to detect whether a pursuer was lost or not. Its a pretty sh*tty system, as I did not and still do not know how to calculate distance between two objects in GM. I do know that this box does indeed cause some performance issues in-game, so if we can phase it out that would be good.
