I think the only real difference between 360 and the 360 elite is the hardrive size. it may also be cheaper than the PS3 but the PS3 is actually the better console and there's no reason why you should sacrifice brilliance for a big harddrive and Halo 3 and Fable 2. The PS3 is more powerful and has better graphics too. and next year the PS3 exclusive market will become huge and blow out anything that the 360 has to offer.

But if you want the bigger drive, there is a rumour of an 80 gig PS3 in america and japan i think. Also you can always get an external 250gig Harddrive over there i think for about 150 maybe?

But really for the overall experience PS3 all the way.

Well the PS3 is all black aswell, and it has a chrome trim. Also the PS3 plays HD-DVD's and Blue Ray DVD's also Blockbuster which i think is the major rental place in America has sighned on to only stock Blu-Ray DVD's in future and not HD-DVD's.

There's another reason.

Also the 360 has about a 60% failure rate. The PS3 about 1%.

You've pretty much already decided on the 360 haven't you. Cause if you have then why ask peoples opinions.

And another point, Microsoft cuts corners. 90% of the Halo 3 special editions were purchased with huge cratches that ran in a huge ring about a inch from the centre of the disc and all the way around. Sony never would have let that happen.

Also Microsoft released the 360 when they knew it wasn't perfect just to get a foot up in the market. A month away from the PS3 release sony found a problem and delayed it for almost an entire year. Yet Microsoft sells it anyway and deals with the all the headaches of having to repair consoles free of charge now instead of fixing the problem before the release.

Don't test me on the Next-Gen console trivia, cause i know it.

What on earth are you on about. How can you say the PS2 and 3 have the same graphics, have you been looking at recent screenshots. I bought a PS magazine and was looking through how amazing the pictures were, when i turned one page and ended up on PS2 pictures i seriously cringed, they looked horrible.

A ps3 on a standard TV will have as good a graphics as the 360 on a high definition tv. the try putting the PS3 on the High definition TV and it's absolutly amazing. and screeenshots really dont do a game justice, cause the printers they use for the magazines cant cope with the amount of detail set into each milimetre of the actual footage.

PS3 graphics are amazing, you cannot deny that.

Alright, time for me to school you so called "experts"

The failure rate on the older 360 models was around 33% The new Elite is better built but problems like the 3 rings of death still occur.

The 360 can not play Blu-Ray (learn to spell DPLkicksASS) through an add on it can only play HD DVD movies, games for the 360 are still in DVD.

bullsh** that Sony would never allow devective units, do you remember the 1st year of the PS2? On the other hand, the PS3 is very well built and it's very quite in comparison to the vacuum known as the XBOX 360.

Graphically, the systems are on par for know. Most of the recent 3rd party games are better on the 360 because the developers have had more time with the hardware. Conversally, 1st party Sony titles are superior to 1st party 360 titles. Though, with every passing year PS3 games will look better. Its simple fact.

As for which system too buy, that depends on the type of games you like, I like Sony 1st party titles and RPG's so I buy Sony consoles. Honestly DPLkicksASS, some of the things you write prove that you know jack-sh*t about games so just go buy a 360 and enjoy playing the overated Halo 3.

Any figures i have have come from official sites such as PSXextrme and Xbox nerds and the playstation and xbox sites themselves, any figures i have wrong are not my fault.

But now sony are really on the ball and would not ever allow a screw up as huge as the red rings of death and the Halo 3 SE botch up.

The PS3 in my opinion also looks nicer as a machine. I did quite like the look of their concept hand controls though. i think they should have used them or sold them as special add ons, they look like future stealth crafts or something of the like.

And like moonchild says Halo is quite overated so really if you want a 360 because its cheaper then go for it, but i'm sure that the general consenses on this site will lead you towards the PS3. But when your 360 turns out to be crap, yeah, well, get over it.

Get a PS3, don't worry about the money. Go for quality!

Yeah well Sony may have a better built machine but their marketing message is so flawed. The company forgets that game's make a system not high def movie playback. You'd think they would have learned after there PSP/UMD screw-up.

And yeah, the 360 is built like crap but in all honesty it has good games. Only a fanboy fiercely defends one company. Like I said, it really depends on the games you like and there's nothing wrong in owning a 360 but personally, I favor the Sony brand.

Another thing, I've noticed many members believe that Blu-Ray will lead to bigger game worlds, that's not exactly true. It has more to do with uncompressed audio and cinematics...

I would defend sony to the death really. Sure 360 has some good games but that's really no reason to chose it over the PS3 which is better overall. I'm not buying a 360 for Halo 3, Fable 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Games like PR are alright but GT is just better.

As for blu-ray it should allow bigger games but it does depend on the content of the game. When i got my PS2 i was dissapointed with the shortening of games for the extension of graphics but as data compression became better and games got longer and still had better graphics than my last game i was happy. That is what blu-ray will eventually do.

Kind of starnge but I'm kind of a Sony fanboy myself and here I am defending the 360? The 360 has other good games coming like Mass Effect, Gears of War and other was/shooter games but yeah, Sony has such a diverse and wide range of titles that it is the console to get.

Well right now, alot of new games are shorter and smaller than PS2 games and that really has too do with increased development budgets. As for Blu-Ray, Sony can say all it wants but the true reason for its existence is because its a trojan horse for the company in the movie-format war. It worked for the PS2 but failed with the PSP, we'll see how it goes this time.

Yeah. Signing blockbuster into exclusivity was a huge move and it should pay off big time. But blockbuster isn't anygood in New Zealand, we've got Video Ezy instead. I actually want a high def TV and a PS3 so i can see what the huge difference is between formats on the movies.

Posted: Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:29 pm
by Moonchild
Yeah but HD DVD is signing hugh movie studios to exclusive deals to only release there movies on their respective format. But hey, Blu-Ray will do the same (Disney is already exclusice to Blu-ray as well as the rental store Blockbuster like you said...)

It of coarse is best to get a HDTV for a PS3 (and 360 aswell) but if your going to watch Blu-Ray on it, your going to have to get a tv that's 1080P capable otherwise it'll just downscale and you won't be able to get the full high-def effect.

I've been looking at a 42" high def 1080i sanyo for 1800. I'm not sure what the NZ-Canadian exchange is but that's bloody good price in NZ. Either Sony or Microsoft have taken universal studios but i dont remember who. I think the market for high def and blu ray contracts is pretty much closed. I just hope that they keep using normal DVD's for a few years to come cause we cant aford a new DVD system for High Def movies.

Posted: Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:44 pm
by Moonchild
Yeah that's a good price for a tv that size but then you won't get the full HD experience in relation to movies since there all in 1080P. Games on the other hand vary from 720P, 1080i, and 1080P with most being 720P and 1080i on PS3.

The high-def market is limited right now but with every year it will grow and yeah, DVD's will probally be around for a bunch of years so no need to worry.

Is Interlaced meant to be better than the progressives though. If so why aren't all high defs on 1080i

Posted: Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:55 pm
by Moonchild
Well Progressive is better than Interlaced and pretty much all HDTV's are 720P and 1080i capable. 1080P is the next in line and that's the one that's more rare in HDTV's. 1080P is for HD movies like Blu-ray and some PS3 games but you have to take into account screen size and viewing distance when deciding if you want to pay the extra cash for it.

Posted: Fri Sep 28, 2007 2:20 pm
by Daltarin-Elite
And here i was thinking of buying a 1080i cause it was better than a 1080p. The majority of our new tv's in NZ are 1080p HDTV with like 3 HDMI ports 160 degree veiwing radius. it's all pretty good then.
