I didn't notice that i spelled trial wrong. So there's nothing really limited to it? If so, then I need to check it out

The big game engines seem to be having a battle, haha
They can still make profits from the profit threshold royalty thing.

I remember when I was younger I really wanted to get my hands on the full Source 1 engine.
There were quite some nifty tools in there I read about, but it wasn't available to the average person.
Only big game-dev companies.

A game development course I was interested in used the source engine. But technically it wasn't the full package. It was modding tools for existing games.

One more question - what about UE3? I'm very impressed by Borderlands series and even for semi-indie games UE3 is enough.

Personally I don't like Unity, but in Poland it is very popular engine for smaller companies and due to that I must work on this platform.

I suspect those actual version numbers will be free forever.

Unity Pro $1500 upfront, or $75/month till you pay it in full ($75 x 24 month = $1800)
Unity Free nothing, some options are not included, when you make money with it you pay them $1500.

The fully featured personal version is free which was only announced within the past week.
It's different from the older free version which was quite crippled.
You can make up to $100,000 before having to pay any fees.
These fee's equate to $1,500 as you mentioned but it's only 1.5% of profits.
Compare that to UE4's 5% after $3000 and it's quite a good deal.

But remember it's free until you reach the relatively high threshold.

But personally I do prefer UE4. But it's relatively new to most people.
There is very little affordable training out there for it.
Look on udemy there are many tutorials for Unity, none for Unreal Engine.

Unreal Engine is made for developers, who know how to code, unity is made for anyone who want to make a video game or a 3d animation scene.

I still prefer Unreal, for its performance and shaders enhancements. Unity is better at use for its simplicity and user friendly interface.

I'm waiting that cryEngine do the same, I mean release a free copy.
