BANNING SPAMMERS AT SIGHT!

Ok,
Tha amount of spammers is ridculous, i mean, we can tell when there is a brand new spammer just joined and ready to flip up our forum. i mean tha newest member (@ tha current time) is "profifilms" You KNOW that is a spammer, Like people like "CashAdvance" and stuff, so i say tha minute they join and appear on tha newst member thingy, they get banned if they have a name that represents spam. IE: if someone called...um... "pornoflick" joins, then when tha name shows up a mod should be able 2 ban them right away.
good idea, eh?????

The issue with this is we don't know if they are spammers or not, truly one could accidentally ban the wrong person.
However soon I think we might implement something like an admin or moderator approving new members or something like that because things are getting out of hand.

How would it make a difference if they had to be approved by admin? You cant tell until they post. maybe you should block people from posting URLs until they have made 10 or 20 posts, so it is obvious they are a committed member. Although that could just lead to more posts by spammers.

99.9% of spammers have a weird URL in their profile as homepage and a ICQ number

yeah, I've noticed that.
It's just hard and very time consuming to edit the current coding to do different things.

I had a feeling that might be the case

I suppose the best way is just to delete their posts when they happen.

committed members

I was committed once, and didn't care for it all, so I told myself, "Never again!"

Man, I hope that doesn't make me a spammer or a...aw, what's that other thing? Oh, yah. A troll.
Hey, man. Is that an ‘L’ at the beginning of your forum name? I thought it was a letter I, like for Interstate 77 or something. Anyway, sorry I kept writing it wrong in that story thread these guys have going. What’s that mean, anyway? Is that like the camera or what? I don’t get it.

its a long story... about 5 years ago, when I hardly ever used the internet, my cousin told me about this online game called runescape... i went to make an acount, and tryed using the name SeveN (dont know why, i just like that number), but it was already taken. so i put L in front of it (first letter of my name), and 7 at the end of it as it was more likely i would be able to get it. It accepted that name, and even though i stopped playing runescape ages ago, the name sort of stuck. I use that name on all online things, so people from other places might recognize me as the same person.
Madness- Is it possible for my user name to be changed to a capital L to avoid confusion?

Yah, well, thanks for the reply, dude. I guess that does make a nice picture if you imagine it the way I assume it's probably supposed to appear. Reminds me of that slang term for 'square', L7 (not meaning to imply anything about you , of course, especially since I’m probably the only square around here). Doesn't look much like a square in my sentence, though. Does it, then? Works better with the hands, I guess.
*[Edit- There he is again, man. What is the deal ? Hey, boss, this guy keeps following me around, going, "LOL." It's giving me the heebie jeebies, man!]*

That's some more of that there friendly banter. Just a joke. It was supposed to be funny (like that Brokeback Mountain stuff somebody posted) but I guess it was pretty gay (Like that Brokback Mountain -- God, I hope I never stumble across that movie while I'm flipping through the TV channels someday).

I can do that, I'd just want you to confirm that you really want me to change that. Also noting if you copy the name and paste it into Microsoft Word and change the font (I used "Stencil") you can in fact see that it is an "L"
If you want me to change it please contact me via. PM ensuring your email address in your profile in correct.

Hey, your posts are that full of quality you should never think your a spammer in fact your one of my favorite users on these forums as all your posts are well thought out and contain lots of content. I've never seen you create a post smaller than a 4 lined paragraph. I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Tell you what, man. You put all the work it takes into building and maintaining a website of your own, and I’ll come over there and call you
boss, too.
Thnks for the query.

It's kind of strange, not you just how it's ironic that two users of the boatd have asked the same question in one day and you have been doing this ever since day one.
Anyways, it's quite interested... after owning this website for 440 days so far, no one has ever called me boss..
I guess after being around so long someone would have to had to call me boss. It kind of reminds of prison where they call the guards boss all the time. Not saying I've been in prison before, I'm too young, well probably not.
