The BeeGees started in Australia, went to England, and made their disco crap in the States, but we still claim dibs. Lol.
We've been known to steal musicians and actors from time to time... Nicole Kidman is Hawaiian... Mel Gibson was born in the states (Ha! He's your problem now!), Russell Crowe is a Kiwi... We just adopt them... :D

Thumbs up for the Bee Gees and the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack, including that one song not by them called 'If I can't Have You' or something like that.

I love Helen Reddy (in regard to Australian music artists). I love her music, I mean. Okay, I love her, too. I guess I can admit that if the boss can admit this:

Hey boss, did you see this video, then?
Hey boss, I went to HULU and watched House. I found House easy to watch. That was cool when they had the episode with the game developer who got sick. And that was funny when House was the one who got the $25,000 USD the same dude offered online for an accurate diagnosis.

That House guy has something valuable to offer, so I guess he can get away with being a bit caustic. I guess I better stick with continuing to try to learn how to be a nice person, then.

Are you talking about the movie, boss? I like the version with Gene Hackman.
I love the Gene Hackman version... I refused to see the new one with my brother and dad because I hate remakes :? He (my dad) tried to get it for me for my birthday last year, but I refuse to own fakes, and for some reason we can't find the original on dvd here... I'd buy the video, but my vcr eats them :(
Man, we love stuff around here.

I went over to visit the IMDb website pages for the older film and the 2005 version, which someone pointed out was not a remake, since it was so unlike the original movie. (Like Planet of the Apes, I guess, which the director called a reenvisioning rather than a remake. I like the scary one of those better than the funny/silly one they made later. The same goes for the treatment that guy gave Sleepy Hollow.)

IMDb, for those who are unfamiliar, is the Internet Movie Database, where users rate and review movies, and other information is provided. Type the title of any film into an Internet search engine, and the first result is often for that movie's page at IMDb. It is humbling to see what outstanding writing abilities and film/literature history knowledge are demonstrated there by users in reviewing films.

Most of the reviews for the 1972 Poseidon movie were very positive, while most for the 2005 version were not as positive, or even just plain hostile.
bb_42001 wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Poseid ... 05_film%29 that was the one i watched.
Thanks for the reply, boss. I like watching movies with Rutger Hauer and Kurt Russell.

Hello, boss. Thank you for the reply.

It has been a long time since I saw that Stargate movie. I forgot who was in it. You really like Stargate, it seems. I guess you have said so, too. I never really watched the TV show. Is that one I should check out?

After reading your post, I looked for some articles about what you wrote. In one aticle titled "More Thoughts from State of the Net 2010" at the Center for Democracy and Technology (http://www.cdt.org), dated Feb 05, 2010, it stated that Google is blocked in 25 countries and YouTube is blocked in 12. I did not know it was like that. In case you are not on some sort of proxy server and did not see it, the embedded YouTube video above was just some music video with the Hasselhoff dude doing a parody of himself as Michael Knight, singing a song called "Jump in My Car".

Since the subject of Australian music artists has entered the chat here at DriverMadness.net recently, here is something Wikipedia says this about the song:

"Jump in My Car" is a song originally recorded by Australian rock band Ted Mulry Gang in 1975. The song was written by Australian singer, Ted Mulry and guitarist Les Hall, and was the first hit for the band in Australia. "Jump In My Car" was number one in Australia in 1976 for six weeks.

A cover version of the song was released by David Hasselhoff in Australia on 22 January 2006 ahead of his first tour there, and was later released on iTunes UK on 2 October 2006. On 8 October 2006, the song debuted at number three on the UK Singles Chart.

The music video for the song was filmed in Glebe in Sydney, Australia and was number 2 in MAX music's World's Worst Ever Video countdown in 2008.

Sorry if one is supposed to only link to such articles instead of copying and pasting content published at Wikipedia. I guess I will read their rules and those here again to get a better idea about it.

You guys are not the only ones being blocked from accessing certain online content. I was just about to view a topic called SGA: Sunday Tribute at a website I like very much, but encountered the following message:
"You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post." What a bummer, man.

EDIT:
I was thinking about how I was thinking about the Internet, and projecting the perception of my own personal Internet experience upon the rest of the world by posting above "Type the title of any film into an Internet search engine, and the first result is often for that movie's page at IMDb." That is what happens where I live anyway, even if the film is a foreign one and the title is entered into the search query in its original language.

See you guys later, man. Be good.

Thank ya.

I just got my first gig with Austin at an elementary school 5th/6th grade sockhop. I've already got a little over 2 hours of 50's-60's sockhop music ready.

It worked on my computer bb? Harls' laptop: 1. Bb's super-computer: 50m. Lol
I remember the original song (obviously not from when it was first released) and I also remember Hasslehoff coming out here in 2006. It was horrible. Both versions. I hate hasslehoff. He irks me.

I got blocked the other day looking for a site where I can stream the Winter Olympics. Apparently, this method of viewing the games is illegal in my country... It's not, but that's what message came up. The only parts of the games that are live here are the opening and closing ceremonies, and the first saturday (from what I heard)... And the paralympics, but that's hardly what I want to see.

@TK Good luck man. Just one question: What the hell is a sock-hop?! lmao.

LOL! Yeah, man. Congratulations. Good luck with that.

I was looking at info about the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. I guess that song called "If I can't Have You" is a Bee Gees song, too. I think I only ever heard the version with the chick singing. I mean the first chick who sang it for that movie. We had that eight-track tape in the motorhome (recreational vehicle, whatever) while on summer vacation one year. Also Helen Reddy's Greatest Hits. I got hooked on both. Let me see. What else was there that trip? Elton John and Beach Boys Endless Summer are all I recall. Oh, Anne Murray.

I recall watching a lot of the 2008 Olympics online at the website of the American television network that was showing the Olympics on TV that year here. I liked being able to watch the events I wanted when I wanted, but viewed a lot of it live. I liked the ping pong (table tennis, whatever) and gymnastics best. My favorite event in the Winter Olympics is probably curling.

Sockhop must be American.

It was a dance (as in get-together) back from the 50's and 60's, where they'd dance about to upbeat rock 'n' roll music.

I'm not paying $65 to watch something I can stream for free. That's stupid. It'll probably be on the ESPN website anyway.

The Beach Boys and the Beatles made up the majority of my high school music class. I kind of hate them now. Lol.

The gymnastics has always been one of my favourite olympic events, and figure skating in the winter games. I still remember a few years back, the Australian speed skater who won the gold medal, simply because he was so far behind the others that, when they all fell, he stayed up! Australia's moment of glory!
Unfortunately, we're water and grass people. We're not good at stuff unless it can be done outside...
I had no idea what curling was... Until I watched the Amazing Race. An entire sport devoted to who can sweep better... Weird.
I'll be perfectly honest though, Australia has no chance in the winter games. We might get one or two medals (in Luge and aerial skiing) but nothing to actually support... So I'm supporting Russia and Canada. Sorry. :)

Yes, and we do call them dances, but these were big back in the 50's, so they're called sock hops for that.

I haven't had one in, I think, a year. Now I want one.

In other news, I just got signed onto TuneIn Records, and the owner listened to my remixes, and asked me to remix one of his.

Also, I made another remix. Tell me what you all think.

That is freaking awesome man! I wish you all the best...
And, when you become famous and sh*t, come down to Australia. We're pretty and warm :)

In other news, I'm watching the Olympics. Turns out it's on Free-to-air when the cricket isn't on :D I knew we had no chance, so everyone should take the chance to view the most epic win ever.
The same year we won gold in the skiing, with Alisa Camplin... But personally, I love rewinding and replaying Ohno stacking it, over and over and over again (lol)
Also saw Gretzky light the cauldron... Only about fifty times. I <3 him. Lol.

Doesn't want to make his move too soon.

That is funny. Those guys are funny. Thank you for the video, man (figure of speech).

I am glad you are able to see the Olympics for free online, Harlequin. I have not tried it yet. I watched the Opening Ceremony thing on television. It was free to watch in 2008 at the television network website I visited then. I was required to install something called Silverlight, but that was all I had to do to watch for free. That was probably something normal people already have on their computers.

One thing I like about watching these games online is that I do not have to sit through all the stuff they show about Apolo Ohno on American TV. I guess the biographical content is cool, but I am really just interested in seeing the events and the ceremonies. I thought the opening ceremony was pretty cool. I saw Anne Murray in there, too, toting a flag to be raised. That was a coincidence, after having just mentioned her in this topic.

Did you guys see that guy from Stargate Atlantis playing violin behind Sarah McLachlan while she performed?

Well, I do not know the history of Olympic Cross-Country Skiing. So, what, was it not interesting enough compared to the high-speed events, so someone said, "How about we let them carry guns?"

Driver of DOOM wrote:... Miller, I too get IMDb or whatever its called... Jump in my car is such a wierd song that I have just had to the CD out and blast it out, Hoff + Music = Fail!
LOL!

I guess IMDb is known worldwide. I never really paid attention to where the user reviews were coming from before, but this weekend I did and saw movie reviews by members from all over the place, including England, Sweden, Denmark, Guinea-Bissau, Australia, Romania, Canada, Republic of Korea, India, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Hungary, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Scotland, Norway, Japan, Portugal, Philippines, Indonesia, and some others I did not note.

Now Irish workers can go get some British jobs in Poland and get treated like Asians to keep Americans happy.
And here are some opinons from people who, unlike me, actually know what they are talking about. http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/bristol/hi/ ... 507122.stm

It never fails. You go to look at the customer reviews of a video at Amazon.com and the people start arguing about each other's opinion. The product rating system goes from one star to five stars. I usually start with the customer reviews that give one star -- you know where the people who got bad delivery service or bad customer service make the mistake of expressing their dissatisfaction with that by rating the product itself poorly.

With a video, such as Stargate SG1 Children of the Corn Final Cut, the one-star ratings and uncomplimentary reviews seem to come primarily from hardcore fans of the show. Those seem to be the reviews that draw more comments...by people who strongly disagree with the review and those who come to the side of the reviewer under fire.

A lot of people seem to prefer the original version.

Stargate sort of reminds me of that book, Chariots of the Gods.

Congratulations to Canada with their first Gold as a home country. I watched the Moguls live, on the edge of my seat hoping Alexandre Bilodeau would fall, but he didn't, so my beloved Dale Begg-Smith got second. He's in the history books though, which is still good, and he performed amazingly to get Silver :)

I've been watching it on TV, actually. We only get about three hours of coverage, but it's the major things I wanted to see, the Moguls, Luge, figure skating and hockey, and we've been getting them all (granted, the Hockey was at 3 in the morning, but it was still cool).
It's better though. I watched the finals of the speed skating for this year online, and the video went for twenty minutes (the race went for like, 2 minutes). Almost all of it was praising Apolo Ohno, then he got beaten by the little Korean guy. I'll be honest, I laughed. If it was an Australian, I would have watched, but the only international athletes that I like to see are Canadians and Russians (mostly because they move to Australia, like Begg-Smith and Borudulina).
I watched the training video of Kumaritashvili. It was horrible. I heard that the American news stations are blasting it, but they seem to try to avoid talking about it here. They were talking about crashes yesterday during the semi-finals, and cut off quite abruptly when they realised they were about to reference it.

@T.K I'm listening to Owl City right now, and just realised he mentions a sock-hop beneath his bed? I guess it's just Australia that never used it. Lol
