Mafia II

The game will be set from 1945 to 1957 in Empire Bay (the name is a reference to New York's state nickname "The Empire State"), a fictional city based on San Francisco and New York City, with influences from Chicago and Detroit. The game will feature a completely open-ended game map of 10 square miles. No restrictions are included from the start of the game. There will also be around 50 vehicles in the game, as well as licensed music from the era.

Many firearms from the previous game will make a return, for example the Thompson M1928, the Colt 1911 and a pump action shotgun. As seen in screenshots, new WWII-era weapons like the MP40, the M3 Grease Gun, and the MP28 will make an appearance in the game as well as the MG42.

Interacting with objects in the environment involves two action buttons- a standard action and a "violent" action (for example, when stealing a car, the player may choose to either pick its lock or break the window glass), used in context-sensitive situations. A map will be included as in the original Mafia game. The checkpoint system has been completely overhauled. New controls include a cover system that allows the player to hide behind objects (such as generators, walls and large crates) to shoot enemies, rather than just using a crouch while behind an object. Flanking may be a large part of the combat.

It has been stated by 2K Czech that the game's cutscenes are created by the game engine, in real time, rather than pre-rendered cutscenes

Yeah, man. Mafia is still on my computer most of the time. (Sometimes I reformat, and then it is not for a little while as games return, one by one, to the HD.) I like to get in a car and just drive around listening to the music change as I go from one part of the place to another. When I first started playing it, I had that huge, paper map they give you up on the wall in the room where I play games. That was awesome, man.

"It has been stated by 2K Czech that the game's cutscenes are created by the game engine, in real time, rather than pre-rendered cutscenes"

That is exactly what I liked about the original Mafia game. I even like that in games where the models and scenery and stuff are totally lame. I think it looks cool that way, the same as in game.

I am glad they did not move the game too far ahead in time. I really do not feel very interested in playing games set later than 1950, except for DRIVER, but I am learning to. Well, really far into the future is okay, but you probably know what I mean.

It would be cool if they had a replay so you could watch the movie as well as starring in it.

I'm very sure that i will buy it, in my opinion it have a little bit of Driver series soul, it would be good if Mafia III would be set in the 60s or the 70s, that would be awesome.
The driving seems very good in Mafia II, reminds me a bit of Driver series (judging by the videos, i must to try for myself if the feeling of driving is good), i think that this game will kick GTA's ass, GO MAFIA and TRUE CRIME, hope that Rockstar will lose popularity, GTA isn't the best sandbox.

Actually, it's not. Saint's Row 2 beats it out in every aspect, minus realism.

Yeah, forgot about SR2. Take away Saints Row 2's character & car customization & the game ain't spit. The online sucks too.

I had GTA 4 for a few days and got bored of it really quickly.

I can say the same with SR2.

I didn't say that GTA was good, I just said that it's one of the best sandbox games.

Sooo.. if one of the best isn't necessarily a good game... what does that tell you?

It tells me that brand recognition needs to go screw itself.

It also literally translates to "We have no good sandbox games."

Yep.

That's O.K.

I had the long term joy of Saints Row 1.

Probably IMO the best sandbox game ever.

I bet that the X360 is the main platform. And then it was converted to the PS3.

Mafia II is very boring game. I already played it only once and I know from first series to third series it is a very boring game. The best thing I like in Mafia II game is its character and background scenes.

You're a bot. Your opinion is invalid. Plus, even if you were human, it'd still be wrong due to the fact Mafia 2 is a good game. The 1st Mafia stomps on it, but still.

sorry but i have to agree with the bot.

Mafia II sucks. i bought it new, played it for 5 hours on hard, beat it, got bored with it. now i wanna sell it. Mafia II gets a thumbs down from me.

I might write a review if i hae free time to give a more elaborate opinion and show all the pros & cons.
