So, due to the poor reception of Undercover, it seems that EA wants to cancels the future NFS games. According to Colin Macrae to an interview with Electric Playground...
Colin Macrae wrote:"We're working through a process on people, products, and facilities at EA and don't have any announcements today."
.

But accord to an anonymous EA employee who send a letter to Joystiq, the series hasn't been cancelled, but it's developer - EA Black Box - and the future games in the series may be developed by Criterion Games, who develops the Burnout series.
Joystiq wrote:We've received a tip from someone a purported EA employ who wishes to remain anonymous. According to this source, the Need for Speed series isn't shutting down -- but EA Black Box, the development team behind recent entries into the series, "most likely" is. The source explains that EA not only scrapped their plans to open up a new studio in Vancouver, but that they also decided to close Black Box, moving the NFS and Skate teams to their much larger Burnaby studios.

The source further details the fate of Need for Speed -- he claims that one of the next entries into the series will be developed by the EA-owned Criterion Games, and will likely use the engine of their racing series, Burnout. He also claims that there are three different teams within Black Box that are responsible for developing Need for Speed titles (which is how they're able to release a new NFS title every year) -- though these three teams will likely consolidate into one, leading to less NFS releases, more continuity between said releases, and, ultimately, drastic downsizing for the NFS teams.
IMO, EA should have done it a long time ago. Mainly because since the Underground series, the Need for Speed series just went downhill.

The series seemed so popular, everyone was talking about it.
Yet, I found all the titles felt the same. I'd rather go back to older games that run on my Laptop rather than any in the NFS range. I found Most Wanted free roam was all right but missions and races were pretty boring unless the cops were involved.

I just liked the cops and their AI 8)
I would say Cop AI was better than in Parallel Lines, but it's so much easier to develop AI for such a restrictive game. In Parallel Lines you can do so much that would make AI much harder to program.

If Parallel Lines was as restrictive as NFS: Most Wanted I think reflections could developer better AI.

Burnout was a fairly fun series. I think the developers could do an awesome job but after all I think NFS existence is really pointless, unless they spend more than a year developing a title to creating something unique.

Since Underground, the series become so repetitive. I hope that EA learns with their mistakes and release a proper NFS game. Not some crappy game bearing the Need for Speed title.

My first NFS game was "Need for Speed II: Special Edition". I don't think the disk will work anymore because the surface is really scratched due to old age. But it was a fairly fun game.

I think the NFS title I got the most fun out of was NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. After that the series become boring. Particularly when Underground come around the series felt much more repetitive. But I found Need For Speed: Most Wanted fun. Owning it on PS2 ruined everything though because the graphics weren't very exciting compared to the PC. Finally when I got it on PC I didn't have as much time on my hands to play it therefor I didn't play it much. The series could feel worsened to me because I don't have as much time on my hands as I used to.

I guess the same goes with every other game including the driver series.
Although I cannot wait to get a new pc and play Driver: Parallel Lines with the latest hardware.

Unfortunately my PC isn't working, and I don't really plan on fixing it.
I cannot be bothered and have much better things to do at the moment :? .

I THINK NOT!
Your going off-topic :o
But I'll answer your question, cause I see your very eager to know.

I said my computer isn't working, I'm using my somewhat slow laptop.
Plus, I could use another persons computer to post this topic. I rarely use my computer online. I always relied on my laptop with built-in WiFi and it's portability factor.

I'll shove that dufus work straight back at you.

I hate low anti-alias graphical issues when playing the PS2 version, any ps2 game for that matter :o . The main reason I never liked the PS2 version of Driver 3 was because of this but it also used a lower resolution than other PS2 games - But that could have been my TV. The only PS2 game which looked better was GT3.

Yeah, probably is your TV that is terrible! But I have a similiar problem with my television. Because in the room's TV, some games looks better there. And also, games from PAL regions doesn't work properly on my TV. The screen appears black and white.

In that case, Your TV only supports NTSC or another standard which isn't PAL.

Yeah, there way too expensive.
The price of most imported products have gone up 30%, causing the world to go in recession. I would avoid getting one even if I was a millionaire, think of the power consumption and environmental impact :o . There are less power consuming technologies slowly hitting the market like virtual reality glasses. Now they support low resolutions (640x480) but in the future they'll hopefully support HD 1080P.

Thinking of all the environmental impact it takes much more resources to make a large TV and very little resources to make VR Glasses. :)

If everyone wants the biggest and the best we'll run out of resources

Would still expensive here. So, I'll keep with my crappy 6 years old Mitsubishi TV.

Are you refering to Hot Pursuit 2/Underground 1/2/Most Wanted/Carbon/ProStreet/Undercover, or are you refering to NFS I/II/Hot Pursuit/High Stakes/Porsche Unleashed?

Actually, they are not canceling it. They are still working on Shift and that World Online thing.

What so instead of releasing a game a year and being fairly unsuccessful there releasing three. Or have they already planned Nitro for next years release. I think there getting a head of themselves too much.

Recently reflections haven't been to successful but I think they have a better formula. Spend 2-5 years developing the game and releasing something unique.

I haven't played the latest NFS games, but it seems they use the same physics, graphics and game engine with little changes and their technical art lead are probably going crazy while the programmers are twiddling their thumbs.

I'm probably fairly wrong, I haven't bothered getting any new games for ages. Unless there under that $15 price-mark. Pro Street is getting close.

I remember quickly playing Carbon, after being a big fan of most wanted and I struggled to play the game for 20 minutes. I know it wasn't that bad but I couldn't stand the game.

Underground 1 and 2 uses the same engine. Most Wanted and Carbon engines are the same as well. ProStreet and Undercover uses the same engine as well. The new World Online will use the Most Wanted/Carbon engine. Shift will use a brand new engine that was developed for two years. Not sure about Nitro.
