Today after years of uncertainty, it has been confirmed that Mafia 2 is in development.

Today, Take-Two Interactive confirmed that Illusion is indeed developing Mafia 2, which will be published under the 2K Games label. While details remain slim, Take-Two said that the game will feature open-world gameplay similar to its predecessor. Players will attempt to earn their keep in the company of a late 1940s-early 1950s crime syndicate, much like Electronic Arts' recent game adaptation of The Godfather.

Mafia 2 is being developed for "next-generation consoles" and the PC. No release or ratings information is yet available.

My guess is that the game will probally come out in late '08 or early '09, looks like there's more competition know for Driver...

Sounds Great,
This is fairly good news, I remember playing the original Mafia and it was a pretty good game. Once I had finished the storyline it wasn't as exciting since you couldn't drive at really fast speeds. But it was more of a gangster game rather than a driving game so I could expect driving action to be as good.

But realism was fairly good. The handling felt fairly realistic with the cops using realistic techniques to take you down. But of course they can do that stuff a little better since AI isn't controlled at very high speeds.

Well hopefully this title will be successful, but I'm not what you would call a Mafia fan I would most likely wait until the game reached $10 to $20 dollars.

But si far it's looking good.

I just didn't like the sound of this
Highly anticipated sequel to deliver Hollywood movie style action and gameplay
Sounds to similar, but I guess that's not car chase Hollywood movie style action so we don't have to worry about clashing fans. :P | Kind of makes me think how The Wheelman will turn out.

I actually bought Mafia for the PC because of what the other members here were saying about the game in the Mafia topic in this forum index. I'll agree with you on the whole realism thing and the story, but driving in Mafia was boring as hell. The thing that's interesting is that it seems that the console and PC versions are being developed simultaneously so hopefully the PS3 version will be up to par with the PC one since I'm more of a console gamer. One thing is certain though, "Alberto" is probally really happy today...

The game is probally early but the screenshots that have been released look ok but nothing too exiting. They actually look very similar (in terms of style) to the original.

As for the Wheelman, who knows. Their hasn't been any new information on the game for over a year, that can't be a good sign.

Like there hasn't been much information on the next driver for ages, but we know it's coming.

Mafia's driving does get a little boring at those slow speeds, but can be fun at times, especially when you have that super fast car.

I also took a look at the screens and I pretty much agree we don't see anything too exciting with the graphics. With the PC Version a few years after release you could say it looked real great. But I'm not to certain with this one, but the

I guess it's like the early driv3r and dpl screens they looked fairly horrible and when the final screens come out they looked tones better since they had full anti-alias implemented. Yet I never thought that would take so long to implement, maybe they leave putting that in till last or something.

WOWWWW!!! NOW THESE ARE REALLY EXCITING NEWS!
Mafia for me, is best game ever created!
Off Screenshots looks nice, kinda atmospheric. Hope to see great storyline, and that is most important thing! Screens look good, dont know why they seem to be wrong for you. Oh well, proly Im not so needful in good graphics..

Mafias driving was not boring at all. It was realistic and entertaining, cause of manual transmission and the way each car act. Shot it, and you will feel it, gears dont change, and etc

Nice find with the trailer, too bad it's a shaky camera recording from the Games Convention booth at Leipzig but it's better than nothing.

I wish they were in english but the cutscenes look pretty good, and the thing that I liked was the tone, it was very serious and violent which is good.

As for driving in Mafia, I liked the realism but the game didn't have any of those "ohh sh*t!" moments like in Driv3r. Even the fast cars provided a "safe" driving experience. The damage models were pretty weak too but whatever. The sequel, it's looking pretty good.

It's a good game but for me, Driv3r and Shadow of the Colossus are the two best games ever created.

I like driving in Mafia. There are plenty of fast cars to drive in Free Ride mode for high-speed, smash-up action with the coppers.

Not meant to be a rebuke or argument, btw, though it should be reiterated that there is high-speed action in Free Ride mode. My favorite car to use is the fastback taxi (I forget the name of it, long sleek looking car). That rod handles really well, and does some major slides and stuff.

Plus, they got mods to introduce the tricked-out hot rods to the Free Ride mode—you know, the Hotwheels looking cars that are only found in Free Ride Extreme in the game as it comes out of the box. I can’t even stay on the road in some of those vehicles because they go so fast. By using a mod to move those cars into Free Ride mode, you get to use them in a part of Mafia where there are cops and other gangsters to tangle with and run from. By using the taxis (there are two very fast ones), you can pick up gunmen to ride with you, using other complimentary 'taxi mods' for that. Then you have high-speed chases with gunplay from your passengers...and your own pistol as you drive (I like that).

I also like to use the throttle control and speed limiter button to drive along with traffic casually, sightseeing the cool 3D art that makes up the city while I listen to the various old-timey music tracks that play as you go from one neighborhood to another.

Thanks for the heads up on Mafia2

Oh, yah...
