How? They don't own the genre. Besides, every game copies elements from other games. GTA took influences on Driver for the driving ad chases. Hell, even the Tony Hawk's series got influences from later GTA games. Driver did took elements from GTA and put it in Parallel Lines. Only a die hard fanboy can't see that.
A lot of games copied the style of Doom, the first FPS game had his genre, later some games copied Doom and they were called Doom clones, and finally they were called First Person Shooters

First of all, GTA does get somewhat repetitive, for the most part though, the storyline is very very good. GTASA's story was awesome. GTA IV's... cool but it did get boring.
Second, you don't just "kill people". In case you haven't noticed, you kill innocent civilians and police officers in Driv3r and DPL also. Plus, you usually don't have to lay a finger on a civillian in GTA unless you want to. Added to that, most of the people you kill in GTA are criminals or very bad people anyways. Do you think I'm upset because CJ killed Officers Pulaski and Tenpenny? Hell no, they were dirty cops with bad souls. They were also murderers, so I'm glad CJ killed both of them.
Next, GTA SA had probably one of the best video game soundtracks ever. If GTA SA's soundtrack and Getting Up's soundtrack mixed together, it would be the best ever. With the exception of Driver 1, most of the Driver games had very crappy soundtracks.
I've played GTA (1999),GTA 2, GTA III(Liberty City),GTA 3(Vice City) and GTA San Andreas
For me,the best GTA's were San Andreas and Vice City,i loved listening VRock and RadioX in GTA VC and GTA SA
In my opinion, the coolest stroryline is in GTA SA(because CJ is a civilian, when he arrive to Los Santos he see that his mother and some friends are dead, and the gangs are controlling the streets so me must fight for his neighborhood, later he discovers that Big Smoke betrayed him,it was one of the coolest storylines of GTA,i heard that GTA IV storyline is cool but i didn't play it yet)
In DPL you can also kill civilians if you want.
PostalDude wrote:Max, you can GTFO because you don't know sh*t.Mediocre sound track in GTA??? Are you f***ing retarded? Iron Maiden? Judas Priest? David Bowie? ELO? Are they mediocre?
And Sedans is absolutely right. And the GTA series is f***ing great, so is the SR series (even though SR2 is meh compared to SR1). And how DARE you insult Mafia, the 1st one on PC is a f***ing gaming masterpiece, and the 2nd one will be great. True Crime and The Getaway are good too.
I think that David Bowie didn't appear in GTA series,i remember some of the greatest Rock bands like Quiet Riot,Megadeth,Guns n' Roses,Tesla.....
I only wanted to promote Driver series music but some GTA series songs are the bomb
I only said that Driver could make money because of some games copied the style(it is not bad to copy the style, some games were inspired by films),the first Getaway storyline was the best,Mafia in that years had the coolest graphics.
