WINE

So over the past 2 days, I just wanted to play a little bit of Driv3r and I'm running into some problems. Well first off the installation went smooth and the game boots just fine. However, if I enable sound effects, the game lags beyond any other lag I have ever seen before (not counting a complete freeze). I had frame rates of around 1.5 to 3 FPS. I tried just turning off the sound effects and leaving the music on, and the game works perfectly. However, obviously part of the fun is hearing the police on your ass and the screeching of the tires as you go around corners, and the gunshots of course. I have tried several things to try and get this to work without the sound killing the frame rate, but nothing is making a difference. Any ideas?

Maybe the sound car driver is causing problems, i don't know. Also I would make a DxDiag and check out that everything works properly. You can also try patching the game.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (in the box of my copy)
DirectX 9.0c compatible Sound Card

Make the sounds yourself
Just joking, check if the soundcard match up to the requirements and if it is up to date.

For some extremely bizarre reason, my DxDiag crashes when I try to open it. :S My game is also patched to the latest version. I'm not sure about the sound card, because I tried all the different available soundcard drivers and none of them worked.

I know my soundcard matches up to the requirements, this is the exact same computer I was running Windows on before it went corrupt. Same hardware, nothing ever changed.

Got it working! You need WINE 1.4 to get it to work. I was using 1.5 before and thats where my problem was. Same goes for Parallel Lines, both of them run just fine in WINE 1.4.

Yea only thing that blows though is since Ubuntu doesn't have an advanced NVIDIA Control Panel like Windows, many of the graphical glitches that are present in Driv3r can't be fixed (such as trees in the distance having a green outline). At least it plays just fine though.

i do have Nvidia Server X Settings or something, but it isn't nearly as in-depth as the Windows one and makes barely any difference. I did search in the Software Center, but didn't find anything. I also tried looking for something on Google, but no luck.

I don't think you can download it. It comes with certain video cards I do believe.
