What would you think? starting off fresh!

What would you think if we were to start off fresh with the Driver Madness forums? It is a pretty big decision but it'll stop us from having problem after problem after problem.
It'll most likely be a forum and only a forum and all the other features that you knew and love like the portal will no longer exist but will exist within the Wiki on it's launch!
These forums your looking at now will be locked and will remain archived forever! Pretty much like the Atari forums. However if you all think it is important they remain open I can create an old forum section where you can continue posting in the old forums. But of course the old forums will slowly die off and everyone will most likely start using the newer forums.
The new forums will be fresh and will contain a driver-listic template like you've always wanted. Since this forum had so many features it was pretty hard to template all of them. But it being a forum and only a forum will fix that.
and of course the main thing that'll make the different from all the other english driver forums is it'll go into detail with a section on every driver and sub sections such as tech support and so on.
So what do you think?
do you have any views?
and do you have any questions?
[hr]
I'm pretty busy with school work but I can make sometime to work on the newer forums as I have been spending overtime on my school work when I don't really have to!
and the driver madness forums have been pretty important to me!
and to see what the compatibility issues have caused have deeply annoyed me.
Once we have come to here I'll open up a new thread for the features you'll like to see!

If there's no portal forget it. I mean even this phpBB2+ doesn't really feel like a real site, but if you have no portal that would mean that you can't post news ( except in a topic but that's not cool ) and that the site in ONLY a board.

Well in that case it would be a forum and only a forum.
News will be a part of the DriverWiki.
and we'll probably use PHPBB3 Standard.
It's just really frustrating doing something like this because we have this forum which has been going good for two-years and finally decides to stop working. (Due to compatibility issues)
I guess if we do decide to start of fresh we will most likely have no problems for at least 6 years and then when we do have compatibility issues there will be better ways of resolving them!

Okay look, I'm the pro, tell me what doesn't work and I'm going to fix it up.
What's the problem with Bluehost ? You should give a look for another host, but a good one ( and not one of those big hosts like Bluehost or Hostmonster. They are always bad and it's also unproffessional ) and just leave the site as it is ( I mean what's not okay on the old Drivermadness ? The style maybe and there's a problem with the signature script but I think that I could repair it

I think if DriverWiki becomes like the portal, it would be a lot better than the original Driver Madness. As long as it is obvious how to get from the Wiki to the forums, i.e. a big button or heading or similar, I'm all for starting from scratch.
A Wiki-style website has much more potential as a website. The main page can have news, link to the forums, categories/portals to content, an article of the day/week, a picture of the day/week etcetera. There's a picture below to try and show roughly what I mean...
Which wont upload.... Hopefully it's reasonable clear what i mean.... Like Wikipedia, but with the forums as the top right hand box (would it be possible to put the recent posts from the forums there?), and the news instead of the did you know thing.

But i really like how every thing is now and to loose all the content would really suck. Is there no way uf updating the site without losing all previous content and features?

Well I'll keep all the content and make it publicly viewable to everyone.
But we will have to lose all the interesting features such as printer-friendly posts, save a post, gradient text and a few other small things like that (as well as attachments) But I'll keep all attachments uploaded so everyone can still use them
I'm thinking we will just have two forums, there will be this forum with the features causing this problem removed and a new forum with better more tested features which should be compatible for generations to come.
Don't get to worried about lose all that work you did!
Typing those amazing posts, I'll keep the forum up, but we will have to remove a fair bit of functionality!
and, umm... Yeah!
Sorry, for me not being around to fix things much!
I've been heavily involved in yr12 studies and semi-professional 3d modeling and animating.

I woudn't mind in loosing some feature, the most important is the site working

Well those things madness mentioned, i actually cant say i've ever used those features, but i just mean it would be great if we can keep the points system and all current posts of ours, that's all.

just wondering, so if you moved all this stuff to the driverwiki, we would have to start off with a new forum again? hm.... would be nice if you could merge the two forums together...
p.s. i mean that's great if everything pieces together and we would still have part of the portals (to downloads and videos, etc)

I'll do my best to take the best approach possible.
We will most likely have to separate forums.
As we would have to lose elements that we really can keep.
But I'm still thinking about the best approach.
I am also busy with other things at the moment.
In the holidays I will have more time to work a lot more on this site!

If you redo the site, I might make some snazzy logo for the top lol. I think it's a good idea, and you should go ahead with it madness!

Unfortunately my internet connection doesn't allow me to transfer them because of it's speed. But once I fix everything up the images will still be available!
