I've always had a dream of creating a game a little bit like driver and i'm trying everything to make it possible, so i've gone to many Game Development sites to ask for help and assistance, the main problem I will be going through is the engine of the game which will be one of the hardest things to create so please if you have any help to offer please contact me via. the comment system, email @ madness.productions@gmail.com , or in this disscussion thread here.

---------- I've always have had my eyes set on the Driver Series, I’d have to say it's one of the best series of games I have ever seen, and one of my goals is to slowly re-create the game in a 3-D environment, I'm planning to design a simple engine for it unless there is already a good freely engine already created out there first off I’m trying to start off with a game with simple physics and then continue on with more advanced physics. This game I’m planning on creating will be free for everyone to play when/if i ever get to releasing it.
For starters I have an idea for a free roam driving game like driver, first of all I think it's best to start off with a city which isn't in real life since it will be very hard recreating it if I get team members working from all over the place unless each team member puts about a mile of their home city/area in so we can see what it's like to drive around where they live. Also I think it's a good idea to start off with a game where you can only drive and cannot get out the car, later on I plan to add the ability to be able to get out of the car and explorer and after that There is a chance I may add a little bit of shooting but this may be to advanced to implement into the game. So you could say this game is a little bit like a GTA game, but it will be focused more on driving, better still I may add a lot more into the game as more people will be interested in helping its creation. Also one of the main things I’m looking for is team work, if I can get this project started I'd like to recruit people to create a mile or as much as they like of their own city so we can put that in the engine.
If you all like this idea, I'd like as much help as possible, since I’m like the manager of this project a little also including the concept of having small cities created by many users who know how to recreate there cities.
Now I know how to create basic things like building and very basic people also vehicles in 3DsMAX and Zmodeler and of course I'll be putting most of the work in this project to keep it alive and to keep people wanting to play it forever as long as we get the support and many people re-creating there cities.
Now Since I don't know much about engines in games it would be nice if someone who is smart in this particular area help us out with creating one or even create one for everyone in this community to work with for their own games, since it would make creating 3-D Games a breeze. Now there are many things which I’m looking for in this engine if someone hopefully decides to build it. The main key features I’m looking for are listed below:
- Allows any type of graphics to be imported via. Popular 3D Creation Tools
- Allows cars to be added which have imported via. Popular 3D Creation Tools like zmodeler
- Allows pedestrians to be added which also have been imported via. Popular 3D Creation Tools.
- A Vehicles System with some physics applied.
- Complete Compatibility with most Windows Operating systems and maybe more if possible.
- The ability to have pedestrians walking along the pathways.
- The ability to have cars AI to drive along roads.
- And hopefully a easy mapping system where we can import building and things and Map them into the city.
These from the above are the simple requests I’m looking for in an engine and hopefully we can progress from that, if something is too hard and you think is not possible at this stage don’t worry about it anything will do at this stage until we can improve on it.
Now if most of that could be in a program which allowed us to create a game in a pre-made engine that would be excellent that would mean we could do all the mapping in there and not have to worry about the engine at this point of time.
I have a slight idea that this is the most complicated thing ever started by a community but hopefully we can all work together as a team and have something released sometime in the future.
At this present time I don’t think we have to worry about any story and this game may not even need a story but we will think about things like this later on in the future.
One of my biggest idea’s is that if we can create a engine where everyone can create their own mission scripts, link them up to sound, models, movies and everything we could have one of the most successful project around, I know this would be very hard to pull since we are all doing this as a free project but if we work really hard we should hopefully have a game better than lots of good games you’d pay for. When you look at a standard development team of about 110 that work full time you can get a nice game like GTA or Driver note that the original Driver only had about 30 people working on the project. What I’m hoping is if that we can get a great engine designed we could have one of the biggest games in the making with people creating many add-on cities as we go through the project and have over 1000 people working on this project even if it is only just each person creating a mile of city or even if it is just someone creating a car or a pedestrian we will get somewhere large until our team reaches the world and then maybe we can have just about everyone who knows something about game design to put something in here and then we can have a really great free game for the world to download.
Also when we think about this engine it would be a good idea if it is the type of engine that accepts anything put into it, let’s say we wanted to put a building from GTA in that should work and lets say we wanted to put a building from DRIV3R in that should work to if this can be done, we won’t be putting both games together or anything we will then just know that we can accept anyone’s user created city, and let’s say they totally created a city in a mod for GTA or something like that we should be able to also include that.
If you like this idea, and or think this idea might get somewhere please send the link of this thread to everyone you know and hopefully we will find someone with the experience to create such a engine, and once we have the hardest part the engine out of the way we can start creating a few cities, cars, pedestrians and then we could have a really good game in our hands and then we can make periodic releases including all the added cities and areas.
