Is it okay if we have a topic in which people can ask questions about using hyperlinks or tell where there are hyperlinks in the DriverMadness.net forum that are no longer functional, like the ones that do not work since the forum moved?

Should we only report links that are to locations within the forum, or external ones, too?

What information should we include in a dead link report, such as author, topic, etc?

Should we post a quote with the dead link in it to make it easier for the original author or moderator to find and fix?

Is it possible to link to specific posts or only to topics?

I realized this a lot finding myself putting the url in the browser and changing the front of the domain so it would work.

To get this working you can change

http://www.drivermadness.net/main/viewtopic.php?t=1010

to

http://www.forum.drivermadness.net/viewtopic.php?t=1010

http://drivermadness.890m.com/main/viewtopic.php?t=1010

to

http://www.forum.drivermadness.net/viewtopic.php?t=1010

and so on if you want the post to work.


In regards to repairing all the links there are a few approaches we can take;

1st - Me and any moderators can modify the links in all the topics, it's a pretty big time consuming job but it's possible.

2nd - The other possibility, I could find or write a script which looks in the database for (in bold)

and automatically changes it to (in bold)

Unfortunately I don't have any time to work on something like this at the moment, but in 6 to 8 weeks, I should have a lot more spare time.


If there are any topics you feel are important enough to be immediately changed; feel free to post a link to the topic and quote this post in which needs changing.

Find a post with the problem, press the edit button.
and make the corrections as I mentioned in my above post.

Good luck, boss -- using scripts to deal with this sort of thing and the strange symbols that resulted from the database transfer or whatever you said about it. Thanks for the reply, including the instructions for being able to follow links in the meantime.

You forgot to include the main/.

But yea, that's the way it works.
