Mod edit: The fix for this problem can be found below (or by clicking here). ~CL

Can you say "needs to be fixed"?
When you severely damage the front end, first stage of damage looks like this:

2nd stage looks like THIS:

You gonna fix it? :)
The easy way is to replace the taxi from LA by the taxis from the other cities.
The hard way is indeed to redo the mapping of the taxi.

Well i forgot one thing, first, the good taxi model needs to be extract from the others level files, then it must be converted in .obj format and then reimported in LA level.

But yes i can send you the model indeed.

Edit: i have to test this before.

In the 12 years I've played Driver, I never knew about this bug. Probably because I never played in Los Angeles as a Taxi...this is an easy fix and I can get one up in no time. The textures are misaligned and will take me 5 minutes to correct.

Just checked, it's not a UV mapping error, but the texture itself is corrupted.

Ah ok, so this is only the texture.

This was the problem:

Looks like the level got semi-corrupted around the taxi damage area, or they screwed up when exporting all of the level data. Surprised nobody pointed this out until 12 years later!

Replace Texture #122 in la_01.lev with this one (from miami_01.lev):

Problem solved.

Just a note, if you guys ever see this kind of problem with a car again, remember that damage models cannot contain UV information. The damage model is a reference used to manipulate the vertices on the clean model, and any UV errors on damage models means textures are misaligned from where Driver is looking.

There's nothing that can be done about that. Transparency in Driver is 8-bit pixel transparency, and the alpha channels in Driver are colored pink. It's due to the lack of a proper transparency filter (kinda like how diffusion works with .GIF images).

That's not really a bug, they probably did that stuff last minute and didn't have time to do the damage for the new headlights they put in.
